I think the cartoonist was drawing on the news story from yesterday regarding the police shooting and killing a chimpanzee. I don't get the correlation at all between the police shooting a monkey and that having anything to do with the stimulus package but that was the first thing that I thought of.

I'm sure if careerbuilder decided this year to make a commercial with a monkey signing a bill into law people would be just as upset. That ad is funny because it implies he works with a bunch of monkeys and the way they flip the graph is probably more relevant today because I'm sure most bank execs did the same thing in face of impending doom. there are no racial implications in that. The only way an ad like that could get racial is if the guy was employed at the NAACP* (the ad would have to clearly identify that) and his co-workers were being likened to dumb monkeys.


*tried to think of a place where a tv viewer might be able to logically assume that most of the employees are black.
