Bobby Jindal playing politics, saying he may not take stimulus money
Jindal Signals Louisiana May Not Take Stimulus Money

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, a potential 2012 GOP presidential candidate, has suggested his state may not be interested in all of the roughly $4 billion allotted to it in the economic stimulus package to be signed by President Obama today.

"We'll have to review each program, each new dollar to make sure that we understand what are the conditions, what are the strings and see whether it's beneficial for Louisiana to use those dollars," Jindal said, according to CBS affiliate WWLTV.

Jindal is scheduled to give the response to the president’s not-exactly-a-state-of-the-union address next Tuesday.

Louisiana reportedly faces a possible $2 billion budget shortfall next year. It has been allocated $538,575,876 for infrastructure spending in the stimulus package, and the White House predicts the bill will create 50,000 jobs in the state.

As WWLTV notes, New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin has said he’ll take any money that Louisiana turns down.

3. What's scary is that the wingnuts will treat him as a "hero" for this, despite costing 1000s of jobs
Just another Republican putting party before country. No shame, and no honor.

Heck, even Sarah "Palin' around with terrorists" intends to.

But by being the first and the loudest to spit in President Obama's face, he pleases the wingnuts, who want someone to provide visible opposition to Obama.

Then, of course, he'll turn around and request the money, claiming that it is needed to rebuild Louisiana, particularly NOLA. Any attempts to withhold funding then will be seen as callously denying help to those whose lives were wrecked by Katrina.

Hypocrisy? Sure. But when has that ever hindered Republicans?

20. If all the red states refuse, cutting their noses off to spite their face
There is more money for us in blue states - that are mostly donor states anyway. There are no earmarks - so that means more money for our state and local governments, for out educational needs, for our infrastructure .....

Now, it seems to me that this will likely do little - other than give us the governorships in those states. (Economically the effect would be hard to estimate - though it might just give more lift than otherwise to the blue states. Yeah, the red states are really punishing us by not taking the money - :sarcasm:
