Today, I tuned in for several minutes. Besides the usual lies and distortions, he referred to our president as "The Bamster". This is total disrespect and vilification. This man must be taken off the air. Later today, I called my local station, WJR, to complain. I didn't get through, but I did get to listen to Sean Hannity! Disney owns WJR, and probably many other stations carrying Limbaugh. Wake up, DU, these right wingers have a big following, which they are trying to turn crazy. There are limits, which Limbaugh has now crossed many times. His hatred of Obama is palpable. He can hate all he wants, but not on the air!

1. I disagree. Limbaugh puts a voice & face to hatred and bigotry.

Anyone on the fence who hears Limbaugh, Hannity, Beck and the like fall our way. I would much rather they spew their hate on the air rather then meet in secret under robes.

People called Bush "chimp," "Dumbya," "war criminal" et al over the years around here and still do to this day. I do have a problem with racial slurs but beyond that I couldn't care less what they call Obama. They called him every name in the book during the election cycle and it didn't work ("terrorist," "socialist," "communist," "fascist," "anti-Christ," et al).

We have this document called the Constitution and a list of amendments. The very first amendment that was added to the original document was included expressly to protect people with unpopular ideas from having their speech/writing/publishing/etc. suppressed by the government.

What's so horrible about "the Bamster"? I don't find it particularly offensive, I doubt Obama does either. It's a little tacky but no worse than anything we've done to Ronnie "Raygun" or * as Democrats.

How is that any different from us talking about "Georgie", "Georgie Boy", "Jr", "W", "the Chimp", and any of a number of names commonly used to refer to President George Walker Bush?

If he were to address President Obama in that manner in person or in Obama's presence I would find it tacky but I don't think he would have the balls to actually do that.

I actually find RL's statement that he hopes Obama will fail much more offensive than referring to him in the afforesaid manner.

Don't give them the satisfaction friend - when you get all excited and emotional about some crap RL has said then he gets the positive feedback he wants - that he was able to push your buttons.

This is the same tactic as referring to us as the "Democrat Party" - fine I take no offense if you want to call me that, I'm proud to wear THAT label. It just drives the wing-nuts well... nuts when you don't give them their childish satisfaction - that's how you push THEIR buttons.

You look like the adult and they look like a tantrum throwing three year old.

What you don't understand about people like RL or SH or AC is that they get off on offending people's sensibilities and the most painful thing that you can do to them is ignore the shit out of them and not let them have the satisfaction. Eventually if you act like the adult they are the ones who get marginalized.
