Obama to make controversial pick for National Highway Traffic Safety Administration?
Maybe it’s Barack Obama’s way of sticking it to those pesky auto safety advocates.

Corporate Crime Reporter has learned that Mayer Brown partner Philip Recht is on a short list of candidates to be head of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

. . . .

But Recht is anathema to the auto safety community.

Under President Clinton, Recht was chief counsel (1994-1995) and then deputy administrator (1995-1999) at NHTSA.

Auto safety advocates complain that while at the auto safety agency, Recht coddled the industry.
