Are Republicans Physically Afraid of Their Party?
Just heard in passing yesterday that in CA (where they needed just one more Repuke) vote to get their direly-needed legislation past, that right-wing radio talk out there had virtually a jihad (sp.?) going against any who might vote for it.

Apparently, it was a bit more than "write/call and tell them to vote 'no'". Apparently there were undercurrents of egging on people to do violence to them or their families. (This is why something has to be done with allowing this kind of Nazi-like behavior on the airwaves.) I know that the GOP will ruin any of their own who buck them; but now it's falling into dangerous territory.

There's something else interesting here. I remember the decades (I'm in my 60's) when the GOP were backbenchers and had no power (solid Dem) rule. Of course, they didn't have a great deal of support and, thus, few flaming propagandist. Their rule over the last couple decades produced an army of these winger radio shills (and Fox News). Now, as the GOP is without political power, these shills are literally starting to advocate violence and crimes against our government. This isn't a free speech issue anymore. It's dangerous maniacs inciting violence

1. I believe they are.
Take for instance the sudden removal of Judd Gregg's petition as Obama's Commerce Deputy, or whatever. I strongly felt that he was put in a bad position and was probably harassed pretty harshly by his own party to leave especially in the wake of passing this stimulus bill. The whole thing was that Repubs were losing the battle and removing more Repubs from the Senate upsets their ability. I thought from taking in Gregg's words about what he struggled with in the past 1 and half weeks and the lambasting in the media by him not voting. Plus the stress the Republican party is enduring...I definitely feel he was probably ganged up on and I'd even go as far as to think...some violent threats, it not pure ex-communication.

2. Jon and Ken KFI 640 LA's biggest talk show is urging their people to attack
Edited on Thu Feb-19-09 05:50 PM by grantcart
state GOP representatives who agreed with them but would not go out and vote against the Republican caucus leadership that negotiated the deal and brought a total of 4 votes so that the Democrats could pass a compromise budget.

the Republicans in the state legislature are completely non functioning as a group and it is almost impossible to negotiate anything with them.

edited to clarify

here is their website http://www.kfiam640.com/pages/johnandkenshow/index.html

Jon and Ken Fatwa!

This is War

Heads on a Stick

Call these California Republicans!

Media reports say the Republicans are close to breaking their no new tax pledge. Call the Republican Assembly and Senate members and tell them to stand firm on no new taxes or else!

They specify calling the offices of Republicans (not Democrats). They are not advocating violence but their rhetoric is militaristic, violent and delivered at the top of their lungs. Its only a matter of time before one of their loose nut listeners goes too far. They encourage their listeners to call and express themselves in full anger, again to people that are voting with them but haven't gone far enough by voting out their caucus leadership.

It is by far and away the biggest station in LA and is home to Limbaugh and Dr Laura as well.

Here is an example the final Republican states "I may be lynched" -

4. Grant--could you clarify?
Since I'm not familiar with CA talk radio, I can't quite figure out what you are saying in your first paragraph. Did the GOP leadership negotiate the deal and their GOP who wouldn't stop them..or what?..I don't follow what you were trying to say. Thanks for any clarification.

8. The leaders of the GOP state caucuses negotiated a deal with the Democrats
to end the crises and approve a budget. (Budgets require a supermajority here giving the minority excessive power).

The GOP only had to get 4 votes but they could only bring in 3.

KFI then went on a huge attack not only on the three but on the rest of the caucus to throw out their leaders.

They then upped the rhetoric and urged their supports to call and attack those reps who had voted in agreement with them but didn't do anything about the 3 renegades. Last night one Republican came over and they passed the bill. Now they are calling for recalling the Republicans who voted with the Democrats.

7. I clicked the site
And saw the news that we passed the budget! I'm relieved and overjoyed - ironic that I first saw the news from a RW talk radio host site.
