Please set me straight on this
The guy who put the "Abort Obama not the unborn" sign in his truck claims Pres. Obama overturned a partial-birth abortion ban.

He makes that statement to this TV station which can be viewed here-
http://www.koco.com/cnn-news/18752319/detail.html

I've heard this from more than one anti abortion aquaintance and I've constantly asked them to provide the law that he 'overturned' no one has followed through.

This claim is a big talking point among the RTL crowd, but as far as I can find out, isn't true-
Am I wrong? Please help me get my facts right.

thanks for any help

:hi:

1. I think you're talking about this.......

But note, the people you are dealing with are those darned "one-issue voters." They aren't going to listen to you and they're looking for anything to hang their straw hats on.

Here’s the truth about Barack Obama and the bill:

At the time Barack voted against a bill containing language designed to protect infants who were “born alive,” such protection was already on the books as Illinois state law.

The accusations against Barack are so reckless that not even the Republican state senator who sponsored the bill will support them. In fact, he freely admits that “None of those who voted against SB-1082 favored infanticide.”

The bill was opposed by many legislators and groups like the Illinois Medical Society because of the unintended impact it would have had on other laws and legal precedents in Illinois.

Barack is on the record saying that he would have supported a similar bill that came up in Congress -- but that didn’t pose a threat to a woman’s right to choose the way the Illinois bill did.

2. thanks- but I've been havin it out with people who make
the claim that his first act as president was to give terrorists rights and take away rights from the unborn. And this was before he'd overturned the Mexico-city "gag rule".

I understand his stance on late term abortion, but it is nothing 'new'-

Thanks for the link though- I think we need to really confront people about their BS when they are talking crap- Otherwise the truth gets buried under their propaganda.

3. Yes, but aren't these the same people who think Michael Steele is "cool and clever"
there's just gonna be some people you won't reach.

The overwhelming majority of people are going to be more interested/affected by how he handles economic issues than they will about abortion issues. You're either pro-life or pro-choice and there's not much mind changing. Anyone deemed to be a threat to your stance on the matter is the devil incarnate.

I'm not saying dont try .... but you've got more optimism about the matter than I do. :)

4. actually, the few I care most about reaching are young
adults- (grown up friends of my oldest son)- And much of what they are saying has been fed to them by other adults in their lives. When challenged to document their claims- they haven't been able to, and they've tried, because they don't like thinking that they've been lied to. I keep hearing the same twist in the propaganda- There is just enough factual window dressing to make their claim sound believeable, but when you really listen, or question the actual statements, like the guy on the news I linked- he said "Obama overturned the partial birth abortion ban" which would be quite a trick for him to do, if no legislation involving late term abortion has come across his desk yet!

And as much as I hate to admit that you probably are right, that the majority of those I try and connect with won't change their perspective, at least they'll know when they are passing along propaganda, rather than real truth-

I'm a dreamer- but i know i'm not the only one :hi:
