Clinton discusses her love for Bill in South Korea
SEOUL (AFP) — US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, taking a break from nuclear disarmament issues, discussed women's rights and her love for husband Bill during a visit Friday to a South Korean women's university.

Some 2,000 students at Seoul's Ewha University gave Clinton a standing ovation as she entered the hall and frequently interrupted her speech with applause.

"No country has yet achieved full equality for women. There is still a lot ahead for us to make sure that gender equality becomes reality," Clinton said in her speech.

"Part of my mission as the secretary of state is (making sure) the United States is committed to enhancing the rights of women."

Clinton said society still makes it very hard for women to balance family and work, and called for more flexible working hours.

I think that this is sound advice for anyone:

Clinton urged the students to pursue love, saying "personal relationships are really what's important in life."

She recalled how a scientist friend who was dying had summed up her life.

"I've loved and been loved. And all the rest is background music," she quoted her friend as saying.

May we all be so fortunate to love and be loved.

2. What?! A female SoS talking about marital love?
Talking about the feelings of women. Talking about giving birth to her child.

Freeper heads continue exploding...stay tuned for more...

How are you and the furry one? Yeah, I thought that the scientist's words were filled with wisdom. When you condense life to its barest essence, what's left if not love? Love for family and friends, love for our pets, love for other living things, love of life itself. The rest IS just background music. A particular good point to remember in these very tough times when people may think they are at the end of their rope.

9. Isn't it?
Hillary is a romantic and old fashioned girl at heart. She likes to see people happy and in pairs. She was known for always trying to play matchmaker to her single staffers (both straight and gay) even before entering the WH.

14. Tammy Wynette would be proud!
I know she had issues with Hillary over the cookie comment, and unfortunately she died before it could be resolved. Hopefully she is somewhere smiling down.

16. I thought that Hillary apologized with Tammy and all was cool.
I'm friends with a woman who used to be Tammy's fan club president, but quit a year or two before Tammy died because she moved away and couldn't dedicate enough time to the club anymore. She told me that all was well between them after the apology. Tammy was a nice woman and didn't hold grudges.

11. I think that she is.
I think that the demons that affected Bill have been exorcised and that they have a close marriage. When they are apart they call each other several times a day and Bill loves to bring her romantic souvenirs from his travels. I wonder what she bought for him on this junket.

12. They have a mutual love and RESPECT for each other. Not all marriages are
the same and it was always wrong for people to question whether they "really" loved each other or not.

13. You are right about that.
Bill is the rare man that is not intimidated by a strong and highly intelligent woman. He's been saying for years now that she was brighter than he was (though I think that they are both intellectually matched). His chest swells with pride when he talks about her. Marriages are messy and complicated, to remain vibrant, interested and engaged in a relationship of many years is not easy. I never judge any woman who has chosen to remain with a man who once cheated on them, it's a very personal issue.
