Ashley Judd and Eyeonpalin.org
Edited on Fri Feb-20-09 06:51 PM by Samantha
It was with shocking disbelief I just watched this commercial air in the Washington metro area. The feelings I had when I first watched the video of the aerial killings of wolves in Alaska resurfaced immediately -- feelings of shock, dismay and despair -- as if I were seeing these scenes for the first time.

I had read these commercials were going to start to air, but seeing it unexpectedly caught me off guard. I simply wanted to sit down and wail at the sight of the wolf being shot from the air, and desperately biting his wounds the bullets left on his hind quarters. The absolute cruelty of the slaying of these animals is beyond comprehension -- what kind of human being does this, or condones it?

OH, MY GOD, HOW CAN PEOPLE BE SO BARBARIC?

The advertisement is a vivid recapture of all the gruesome facts we learned during the election. Kudos, Ashley Judd, for standing up and speaking out.

I hope I captured the name of the website correctly in the title of this thread. I will check it out in the next few minutes.

And yes, we certainly do need to keep an eye on Sarah Palin -- as ill as it makes us feel -- and we need to announce to the Country we intend to do so.

Thank you, Ashley Judd.

Sam

5. I have been and will always be a huge fan of Ashley Judd.
Just went to see Wynonna here in L.A. last night, even though I don't care for her politics, I'm a big fan of hers also. The biggest heart in this family belongs to Ashley, and she puts herself out there for some very good causes, this being one of the biggest. Thanks, Ashley, and keep up the good work.

I can't thank her enough.

I too have always been a fan of hers, but this action puts her in an entirely different zone.

9. I love Ashley Judd, a fellow University of Kentucky grad and UK
basketball fan. I am so proud of her for taking on Palin in this outrageous action of killing fellow creatures for no reason (or for any reason.) Thank you, Ashley, you are the BEST.

27. Props to Ashley Judd
I agree that the people who voted for the wasilla witch are the kind of creatures that think that the sun revolves around the Earth. Don't forget the oil spill that looks like Jesus.

16. Fact check does a good write up of Alaska's Predator Control Program and the ad:

http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/call_of_the_wild.html

............
The Alaska Board of Game's adoption in 1992 of an extensive wolf-control program in several areas, with the goal of reducing wolf populations there by 80 percent, went over poorly with many in the state and the rest of the nation. Aerial hunts were canceled, then reinstated, then canceled again in 1995. Voters approved a 1996 ballot initiative that essentially banned predator control by airplane, resulting in the state's same day airborne hunting law. But the Legislature, in 1999 and 2000, rewrote the law, reversing what the referendum had done. Later in 2000, though, another ballot measure passed, restricting airborne wolf control to Department of Fish and Game personnel only.

The volley ended, at least for now, in 2003, when the Legislature reinstated airborne wolf control by private pilots and gunners, which is the program that exists today. (Alaskans voted on yet another ballot initiative to restrict the aerial hunting program to state government personnel last month. This time it failed.) Under current law, the Fish and Game Department may start a predator control program only if it finds that populations of big game have fallen below predetermined desired numbers, that "predation is an important cause" of the decline and that elimination of predators can be expected to lead to more big game. Nearly 800 wolves have been killed over the last five years through aerial hunting in order to increase the numbers of moose and caribou. The goal in some areas is to cut the wolf population by 80 percent.............

17. Thank you for taking the time to volunteer this important info
I had previously read that many in Alaska had disapproved of the aerial shootings because the wolf population was not so out of control it threatened the population. Had that not been the case, however, it seems like a much more humane approach could still have been taken.

18. you are welcome. Perhaps
they will come up with another approach but I imagine it is quick and given Alaska's vast and formidable territory--if is a cost effective approach. the article mentioned poisoning. That may be a more slow painful approach but I really do not know. I like to look at all sides of an issue.

20. The problem with the most recent vote was the wording of the vote...
... if you voted 'no', you were actually voting FOR the hunting to be allowed...

Typical right-wing dirty-tricks...

I hate that wolf-killing bitch...The only real hope to stop this practice is to pass the PAWS bill and mandate the end of the practice from the Federal level...

25. That's exactly right, TrueBrit.
Alaskans for the most part are opposed to aerial predator control except in emergency situations, and we voted against it twice. The wording on the last initiative was deliberately obtuse.

26. Is there nothing available that would allow Alaskans to stop
Palin dead in her tracks (pardon that expression) on this barbaric practice?
