President Obama, This Man Should Be Your Commerce Secretary

His name is Marc Andressen. He is the co-author of the first internet browser, Mosaic. He is sharp, bright, articulate, and he now funds new start-up companies. He's the perfect face for this administration because he embodies change, hope, and new technologies, and new directions. Right now, this country and this economy needs NEW businesses, NEW industries, which will bring NEW jobs, and what better man symbolizes these ideas than Marc.

More about Mark from his wiki page:

Marc Andreessen (born July 9, 1971, in Cedar Falls, Iowa and raised in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, United States) is known as an entrepreneur, investor, startup coach, blogger, and a multi-millionaire software engineer best known as co-author of Mosaic, the first widely-used web browser, and founder of Netscape Communications Corporation.<1> He was the chair of Opsware, a software company he founded originally as Loudcloud, when it was acquired by Hewlett-Packard. He is also a co-founder of Ning, a company which provides a platform for social-networking websites. As of June 30, 2008, he is said to be joining the Board of Directors of Facebook. On September 30, 2008, it was announced that he had joined the Board of Directors of eBay. Andreessen is a frequent keynote speaker and guest at Silicon Valley conferences.

7. I once worked with Andreessen on a presentation at a Sun Microsystems event
I did his Powerpoint stuff for him, including illustrations and other technical things. The guy is nothing short of being a genius. He could talk uber-geek with the best of them as well as explain ideas clearly for the less geeky. He was demoing the Netscape browser version 3! You could do tables!

Back then, he had hair. I particularly remember him saying that sleep was a weakness. Years later, at LoudCloud, people could take catnaps during the day to help get rejuvenated.

Marc would be a superb choice for Sec of Commerce...

12. Did you catch him on Charlie Rose last night?
He seem to really irritate Rose at certain points. I was half asleep toward the end, so I don't know how it ended. But, Andreessen was talking about newspapers folding (actually, how they should just cut their losses and fold) ~ not being able to compete with the internet ~ and he used Judy Miller and her pieces in the NYT @ WMD as an example of blatant false reporting and Rose seemed pretty perturbed. It was fun to watch.

13. Newspapers pay reporters. The reporters are what the internet doesn't have that newspapers have. nt
