Not For Nuthin', Michelle Fry, But WTF Have You Been?
Not for Nuthin’, Michelle Fry, But WTF have YOU been for the Past Eight Years?

According to a story which appeared on FOXNews.com today:
“Michelle Fry is a suburban Atlanta homeowner who has seen the value of her modest one-family home drop by more than half in the past year. She now sees a national mortgage bailout plan that appears to reward people who bought more house than they could afford and can't pay their bills. And she has a simple question for President Obama: "Why am I paying for them?"

Well, Michelle, I have a question for you: Where the fuck was your outrage when one George W. Bush, along with his ass-kissin’ party, were insisting that government oversight of anything and everything was detrimental to the nation’s economy (oh, and yeah, that would be the same economy that is in ruins right now, thanks to his policies.)

"We are very frustrated and scared," said Fry, 32, a newly expectant mother who works as a creative director for a public relations firm. Her husband Sam, 38, is a truck driver for a local printing company. Their combined household income is less than $100,000."

Wow, you’re scrapin’ by on less than $100,000 a year? Jesus H. Christ, I feel your pain. No doubt the people who are jobless, homeless, and bankrupt as a direct result of the BushCo Administration are cryin’ over your plight, even as we speak.

"My husband and I always discuss, 'Why do we try to better ourselves, when it seems if you do nothing, you get all the help in the world?'” she said.

Well, you got it, Michelle. All of those people who did nothing to better themselves – like banking officials who looked the other way while offering dream mortgages to people they knew couldn’t afford them – are now wondering where the help is going to come from. Ever try to switch from caviar to Caviar Helper? It’s a bitch.

“Middle class homeowners who worked hard, played by the rules and paid their mortgage bills and taxes on time are wondering out loud whether the government is interested in helping them, too.”

Yeah, exactly. As we all know, every last one of those citizens who were trapped by the fiscal irresponsibility of the past administration are ALL responsible for their own misfortune – kinda like the victims of Katrina in NOLA were ALL responsible for losing everything. Some people just have no sense of personal responsibility. Next thing you know, people responsible for torture will be denying they had anything to do with it – go figure.

“The president”, as reported by FOX-News, who are apparently still unaware that the title has gone back to warranting the use of a capital “P’, “took pains to defend his plan against critics who say it bails out irresponsible buyers who spent more than they could afford.”

"The plan I’m announcing focuses on rescuing families who have played by the rules and acted responsibly," Obama said. (That’s PRESIDENT OBAMA, isn’t it?) "It will not rescue the unscrupulous or irresponsible by throwing good taxpayer money after bad loans. And it will not reward folks who bought homes they knew from the beginning they would never be able to afford."

Whoa there. Am I hearing a capital-P President talking about irresponsible people NOT being rewarded for being irresponsible? That’s hope ‘n’ change I can live with. How about you, Me-Me-Michelle?

To put it bluntly – which, I have been told, is part of my charm – people like you make me retch. You live in fear that someone – anyone – might benefit from a single penny of your tax dollars. You spend restless nights tossing and turning, as you ponder the idea of some fellow citizen being rescued from financial ruin – as opposed to the nights you slept soundly when it was only unscrupulous, multi-million-dollar-a-year bonus-receiving CEOs who were raking in the dough, hand over fist, at the expense of the labourers who generated the profits that allowed for such excess.

Michelle, get a fucking grip already. There are fellow citizens out there who deserve a leg up in today’s disastrous economy – you know, people who are living in their cars and eating out of garbage bins behind fast-food restaurants, because the policies of the past eight years have left them bereft of any other chance at survival.

And try listening to something other than FOX-News – it’s not too late to open your eyes to the truth. You’ll recognize it when you see it – it will involve real people caught up in unreal circumstances, like trusting a fucking bank official when he says, “No, really, this will all work out to your benefit in the end. And don’t bother yourself with the fine print.”

I’m still retching here, Michelle. That’s because I’m living with the fact that people like you never read the fine print – until you think it might cost you a dime or two.

Here’s hoping you and the hubby manage to survive the economic crisis wrought by GWB and his cohorts – because while margarine is never a real substitute for butter, it will do in a pinch ...

… you fuckin' self-centered bitch.

21. When they bought the house, they could afford it ...
Now circumstances have changed, and MANY homeowners are unable to pay their notes, due to other reasons than simply being greedy ....

Furthermore: The effort to prop up 'some' mortgages are based in part to keep the market from collapsing entirely, thereby further destroying the valuation of the Fry manse, as well as the collective impacts on the economy as a whole ...

It would be better to help those who need it AND let Michelle's home value fall into the crapper, as far as I am concerned ... (If it could actually happen that way) ....

for the ongoing, self-serving myth that the victims of the past 8 years are really the perpetrators. When are even the most selfish among us going to realize that it benefits all of us when everyone has a home, food, a decent education, and gainful employment? And that's GAINFUL employment for tax paying citizens! I guess in Michelle's world we can always spend our tax money on more prisons and stingy social programs instead--maybe buy a few more guns in case someone trespasses into our uppity neighborhoods. How in the world did the social consciousness of the sixties devolve into such a screaming, steaming tirade of Me-First, Too-Bad-For-You, Selfish ASSHOLES? While calling themselves Christians, by the way.

26. having lived in Atlanta, i know the type
the Frys almost certainly live in some tacky, hastily built 4-BR McMansion about 25 miles outside the city (nowhere near any MARTA station), and probably have a 45-minute commute no matter where they work...In the garage are a couple of high-end (BMW/Lexus) SUVs and the house probably has a few more toys inside while they try and keep up with the Joneses...The husband almost certainly listens to Neil Boortz or Hannity or whoever and hammers the talking points from those shows into his wife's head when he comes home (i.e. Obama is going to personally cut a $10,000 check for every deadbeat welfare recipient piece of ghetto trash)...Oh yeah, the husband is probably non-union and they bought their home at a grossly inflated price because they HAD to follow the LifeScript, but now when the astronomical home values equalize they feel cheated and want some of the free cash they think is being doled out to their neighbors...

38. The impecunious Frys
whereabouts may possibly be located at zabasearch. This is not to suggest they get hard copies of Nance's magnificent rant via the postal service. Repeat: Do not print and send this to the impoverished Frys, but a copy to the editor of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the local Fox News affiliate might be effective.
Imagine 50 people a day sending Nance's rant to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. They might think it's a movement. We could start a DU collection to bail out the impecunious Frys because everyone knows the only ones getting help will have to provide proof they voted for President Obama.
So Michelle Fry, if for reasons beyond your control cause your residence to be jeopardized, get a beaded bag and find a lamp post on which to lean.

40. You are so right
My daughter had one a few years back. It was in one of those 'neighborhoods' with a big rock at the entrance, engraved with a swanky sounding name like 'Riverside at Goose Point'. I didn't see a river or a goose anywhere near the place.

They all looked alike sort of--the architect took the pieces & parts and switched them around a bit. But inside, they were the cheapest pieces of garbage I had ever seen. They look HUGH on the outside, but after you take all the vaults, peaks, fake walls into account, there is little usable living space.

And yes, they did have two Mitsubishi cars in the garage, that they'd gotten 'no money down', with giant booming subwoofers in the trunks.

Her husband was born with a repubicant spoon in his sorry mouth, and my daughter wouldn't listen to me (being the socialist that her now ex-father-in-law told her I was).

Actually, they spelled it right. When referring to the elected position, it's "president" with a small 'p'. When referring to the person, such as President Obama, it gets the upper case 'P'.

31. Sing It Nance
But your great rant is an example of how we dems often answer the republicans. We look beyond the sound bite with all of the correct arguments. We gather all the evidence and rebut their messages point by point.

You hit the nail on the head when you said "...people like you never read the fine print – until you think it might cost you a dime or two."

Yes we look beyond the headline and read the fine print while they are much too simple to do so. They live in a black & white world where simple messages are as much as they want to hear. Us versus them, right versus wrong, good versus bad. Karl Rove was not a freakin' genius, he just understood and exploited this truth about a very large segment of the public.

In this case the Faux Noise message was pretty much the Rove trifecta. To paraphrase, their message "Why am I paying to bail out people that bought more house than they could afford?" incorporates 1) us versus them; 2) right versus wrong; and 3) good versus bad. Never mind that it's bullshit, never mind that it's not true, never mind that when you dissect the sound bite and dig into the facts, you can tear it apart as you, Nance have so eloquently done here.

We dems are getting better and, obviously President Obama is pretty good at it. The polls say that the President's message is winning the argument and the large group of "Michelles" is smaller than it has been in two decades.

36. But no outrage over Bush debt???
So Rick Santelli and Michelle are outraged over a few billion dollars going to help people, and 'adding to our debt' that we all have to pay off. There is outrage over spending a trillion dollars to save the economy. Where was the outrage back in 2002 over the Bush tax disaster that got us 5 trillion in debt, created an asset price bubble that has now crashed, and all that money went to the wealthy, which we all will have to pay off? Where were they then? If Bush had paid off the debt, instead of sinking us deeper, the cost of today's medicine would be easily affordable.

39. Who IS this yenta Michelle Fry?
She sounds like someone I used to know. In high school she was a New Lefter. She protested and marched and had a lesbian affair and all the rest of the baggage. Until she got pregnant, the tolerance of her parents was surpassed by this, and she had to get married. And she turned Republican, grouchy and soulless.

I've known so many young women who led wild 'n' crazy lives who suddenly turn into Republican nuns that it's more than a well-worn life path, it's a superhighway. You wonder where all the Republican women come from? I think they mostly come from hitting a brick wall (their self-indulgent lifestyle) and staggering backwards from an immense brain hemorrhage.

(My late mother, God rest her soul, was one of these. She denied it until her death from Alzheimer's, but my older sister was the result of an affair. Except she was born too early for the New Left: she was a "flapper" who let someone see too much under her flaps. She went Republican and hated blacks and hippies and all the standard stuff.)

Gee, Michelle just can't understand why triage doesn't go to those who aren't hurt. Frankly, I can't wait till she loses her job, to hear just how responsible and independent she is, and how no tragedies of life can overcome HER unsinkable ability to meet all obligations no matter what...

Betcha she'd sing a different tune then, and I'd bitch slap her stupid face if it was within reach. Yet I'm sure she'll be expecting all the small violins in the world to come out and play for HER. Miss Entitled and All-Deserving, it'll be then, just as now.

Interesting, how Michelle not only feels nothing wrong with voicing such a personal need for greed during an economic failure of global proportions, but she takes it further by getting herself on the media to PROMOTE it. She is lower than low, in all her self-righteous hypocrisy. She should be ashamed of herself, instead of arrogant... but she clearly isn't moral enough to realize that, while holding herself up as some kind of phoney moral paragon.

:puke:

That doesn't fly. Not one inch.

Edited on Sat Feb-21-09 06:20 PM by byrok
We bought our house ten years ago. Prices went up, and 2 years ago we decided to tap into some of that equity. We put a roof on our hurricane battered house. We bought a stove with four burners instead of just keeping our old one that still had one good burner. We paid off my wife's school loans that she had been paying on for 12 years, for her teaching job at $35,000 a year, after 12 years on the job. I built an extra bedroom in our garage because with 6 children growing older, its difficult for them to continue sharing 2 bedrooms.

There were no trips. There were no toys. Just trying to maintain life.

Then I lost my job a while back. Every place that I applied to had an overwhelming amount of competition looking for work too. Suddenly, finding work was nearly impossible. As a experienced restaurant manager, I applied for dish washing positions with no luck. As with all of my experience in anything, I looked for any entry level position that I could get. No luck.

The bills started piling up. The mortgage got behind. Gas was pushing $5 a gallon. We were screwed.

Now we are going to be foreclosed on. Yesterday, I found a job that will pay me about $10 per hour. We're going to try everything we can to save our family's home. It's going to be hard if not impossible.

Hey Michelle Fry, we're terribly sorry for being so selfish and irresponsible. Would you feel better if we just turn down any help that we may be offered so as not to rain on your parade?

How about instead we just say FUCK YOU BITCH!

Thank you Nance. As usual, when I noticed that you had posted, I was excited to read it. This one was perfect.

Edited my poor mispelling of your name.

51. I'm so sorry to hear about your situation ...
... and how many more out there have similar stories to tell?

The Michelle Frys of the world need to believe that anyone who finds themselves in such a situation brought on it themselves, through sheer greed and a desire to possess more than they can afford ... i.e. no sympathy required, no need to trouble your "beautiful mind" with unpleasantness.

Of course, we never heard Ms Fry's big mouth when the truly greedy, from bankers, to CEOs, to war-profiteers, were raking in the dough ...

52. Whoa...just now found this. Started reading without checking who wrote it first, and
at about paragraph three I realized the truth was spilling from your pen Nance, and as often happens when you write it was undoubtedly divinely guided and inspired.
You were given poignant and funny gifts of comparison, and outrage properly directed and expressed.
I trust you are grateful, Nance for those heavenly presents, just like we are grateful to benefit from them through you.

You. Go. Girl.

55. Nance sums it up nicely:
"To put it bluntly – which, I have been told, is part of my charm – people like you make me retch. You live in fear that someone – anyone – might benefit from a single penny of your tax dollars. You spend restless nights tossing and turning, as you ponder the idea of some fellow citizen being rescued from financial ruin – as opposed to the nights you slept soundly when it was only unscrupulous, multi-million-dollar-a-year bonus-receiving CEOs who were raking in the dough, hand over fist, at the expense of the labourers who generated the profits that allowed for such excess."

The mindset Nance describes is what enables these corporations to get away with their economic terrorism. Corporations use the media to portray greedy, elitist, spiteful pieces of shit like Michelle Fry as being a voice of reason in this economic storm. As though being a selfish asshole like this is how a hard working honest American should feel about their fellow citizens. We are in the middle of a fucking crisis and the only thing keeping this bitch up at night is the thought that someone else might get a piece of cake while she might not. :grr:

56. right-on, nance!
how many repubs have yet to realize that the white-supremacist gop only cares if you're RICH.

how many of these now desperate people sat back and rallied behind that fascist bush when he was only drowning, bombing, starving non-whites? poor whites were even devastated by these neocons.

but now the middle-class, chickenhawk, supremacists who thought the gop would take care of them and "their kind" have had a rude awakening. well, some of them anyway. some sad sacks are still dazed and confused and looking for a dem to blame. fortunately, some woke-up just in time to vote obama.

amazing how compassionate and wide-awake selfish folks become once their bellies are growling.

but you know what's going to happen...

obama and the dems will fix another repub mess, restore this country, and then these same selfish people will feel comfortable enough to throw their fellow americans under the bus and vote repub again.

The only problem is, well, the Michelle Frybabies of this world. Even if she ever read this post, it would go right over her head, and her eyes would glaze over, and she'd go right back to the comfort of her Rush Room.

Michelle -

Do you know how close you are to becoming one of the people who "bought more house than they could afford"? One layoff away.

Do you know what your house will be valued if you don't stop other houses in your neighborhood from being foreclosed on?

The belief that the stimulus package doesn't help you because you don't actually get a check is unbelievably stupid and short sighted.

I wish there was a way to let all these people "enjoy" the suffering they deserve without taking the rest of us with them.
Whatever happened to the belief that helping your neighbor in times of difficulty was a good thing?

This is really hard to stomach.

oh, poor baby having to live off less than $100,000/year. We struggled to make less than $35,000 last year and that's for a family of 3! God forbid that ANYONE have to give up their precious cell phone or morning Starbucks.

If we're going to cry about how broke we are ... lets wait until we are REALLY BROKE.

Cudos Nance to your last line, it REALLY speaks to me "... you fuckin' self-cenetered bitch"!

67. It's really amazing
how many people here think they know all about Michelle Fry, just from hearing a few quotes from her. Do you really know anything about her, or are you just projecting things you love to hate onto her so that you'll have something to write? Do you know who she voted for in 2000 and 2004 and 2008, are you just assuming it was Bush and McCain so that you'll be able to rant with a clear conscience? Think hard about what you know about this person, as opposed to what you think you know, then try to write something coherent.

...sometimes the sanctimonious crap these people spew is beyond belief.

Do they even realize that the housekeeper they refuse to pay a living wage to pick up their garbage makes about 1/10th a much as they do and she is supporting three kids? When they drive through McDonalds in their Hummer to buy that Big Mac, do they even realize that, not only is the gas they are wasting in the drive way costing soldier's lives that THEY are too chicken shit to consider doing themselves, but the person they pay at the window is getting paid less than a livable wage? When they stop at the grocery store, do they even see that the check out clerk is tired because she works two or three jobs since the grocery store only lets her work part time so they can save money on health care and deny it to her and her kids?

Oh and by the way Beeeyutch, where the HELL are these people supposed to live? How 'bout they camp on your lawn where you can meet them face to face every day as they try to survive? Huh? Huh? Huh?

And you wonder why soon there will be a REAL class war with torches and pitch forks heading for your husband's corporate headquarters for taking their jobs overseas...

My 2 cents

70. Best ever!
I will keep this handy so that when Michelle's friends whine in my ear, I can forward a copy of this to them. I tell my very wealthy friend that if we don't try to feed and clothe those who have been hit hard, eventually people will be bopping her over the head for her wallet. I say even sweet, peace loving folks like me could be driven to steal if the babies don't have food. Trust me, she doesn't like to hear that! Peace, Kim

for once again brightening up my day with your straight-shooting, pull-no-punches, speaking of truth, not only to power, but to anyone with ear (or eye) shot. I really think you ought to consider collecting up a passel of these columns and doing a book. Between your substance and your style, it'd be a definite winner.

Edited on Thu Feb-26-09 05:18 PM by newtothegame
I can understand her questions; freakin A that was just vicious...I'm not trying to be a dick myself, but what is the point of ripping someone to shreds for our entertainment, someone that you what, read about in article? Do we even know anything about this person? Maybe she WAS speaking up over the last 8 years, maybe she DID vote for Obama, we don't know...And your post accomplishes nothing because it seems that your "open letter" posts never even get sent to the person that you're apparently so vengeful towards; you just write them so we'll all cheer you on for being creatively hateful?

Too late to rate but you earned every one of those Recs.
