But I shall elaborate anyway. Alan Keyes is clearly deranged and a demagogue but he is also an educated and clever man . He came as close to threatening the life of the president as possible without actually doing so, hence the cryptic "he must be stopped." With a little prodding from the reporter he might have crossed that line. That is what I said in my original post.

I happen to think that both the folks here (including myself) and the idiot keyes fell short of the "line".

BTW, I agree that the questioner should have asked him a follow up as to how he thinks obama should be "stopped" and who should do it. The answer to that question might well have taken Keyes up to or even over the line. But without the follow up, the statement falls short of being a threat and falls within protected speech.
