Watching the Republicans at this summit with Obama is fascinating.
They're all fiscal conservatives now. Who knew?

2. He called on McCain first. Most of the Repubs. are kissing his butt.
And he's cracking some jokes, too.

3. It's a weird mix of kissing his ass and crying about not being included
It's hard for me to concentrate on work. I'm oddly fascinated by this strange display.

4. Obama-"I'm gonna keep doing that (reaching out to Repubs.) because I'm a
glutton for punishment and ONE day Eric Cantor's gonna come out and say, 'Obama had a good idea.' I just know it!" (Cantor and others laughed.)

5. That was great!
Obama is going to come out of this with so much strength. The Repukes are going to go back to their offices and pour themselves a few fingers of amber liquids. Completely whipped.

6. It sure was...
He's now shaking their hands, doing that thing he does when he puts his hand on other people's shoulders. Eric Cantor was just smiling in his face.

14. He makes it so difficult for them to diss him in front of a camera
We, the public, have watched him reach out and they kept slapping him back - at their peril.

Can you imagine what kind of phone calls those guys are getting from their constituents?

16. True...
and yes, I CAN imagine that. Obama is a one-of-a-kind president. He's getting rave reviews.

7. and now Obama just got serious
He's very straight forward on why he made the decisions he did, he debunked several GOP lies regarding the stimulus bill, he created numerous sound bites, and he did it all in time for the nightly news.

:wow:

9. It was beautiful! Did you see McCain's first comment about the presidential
helicopters and how much waste it would be if he had so many, and Obama answered that he's quite happy with the one he has, but he doesn't really have anything to compare it to since he never had a helicopter before? Great response-from both him and the audience.

11. The closing comment was fantastic. Refuting all of the BS talking points that have been thrown
around this morning and afternoon. Made it very clear that the stimulus being a spending bill and the need to cut the budget were two completely relevant issues and that the nonsense about them being contradictory needs to be put to bed. The boss is in charge and he just owned that room.

before-quite extraordinary.

17. Exactly! The boss took charge today...
and he did it after getting his ass kissed by the same republicans who want to fight him on everything! The next time any of them bitch and moan about not being listened to, someone is going to replay these clips.

21. Indeed. This is where Obama's teaching background comes into play
big time. He stood up at that podium and controlled that room like he would a class. Interested, interactive, funny, witty, but strong in the moments he needed to be strong in and very instructive with what must be done. I've never seen a POTUS do something like this, and I'm impressed.

8. The biggest loser of this: John McCain
McCain came across as a stuttering ass today. Just think...once upon a time I was actually worried that he had a chance of winning.

12. Obama owned him in his response about his willingness to use the helicopter he has
NOW. He won over the audience, too. And the MSM is calling it an "extraordinary event."

19. .And that repug from Texas who stood up and whined.
The rest of them sounded like they were there to get going on problems, and then we had the ones who are the problems.

10. The only time they are fiscally conservative is when a dem in the
White House forces them to be.

The rest is all gopspeak.

22. According to the book, "Tell Newt to Shut Up!"
Clinton excelled at turning on the charm when meeting with republicans to the point that Newt would be chastising himself - out loud to others after the meeting - "Why can't I say no to that guy?"

Obama is much like Clinton in that regard.
