I just went to David Shuster's "Twitter" site...
He said he's twittering right now. So I asked him, "Why don't you call out/correct Republicans (like Darryl Issa) when they call the Democratic party the "Democrat party?" And he replied: "why don't we call lawmakers for saying "democrat" party.. probably because I didn't hear it clearly enough to conclude he said it." Then I wrote back, "OK, but please "be on the lookout" for that. Nearly every Repub. calls Dems. the "Democrat party" or the "Democrat congress."

one read on the air few weeks ago. The question was, "What would Dr. Martin Luther King say to Barack Obama if he was alive today?" And I answered, "I can't believe you beat the Clintons."

5. Some say it started with Newt Gingrich. He instructed Repubs. to call Dems.
the "DemocRAT party" so the word "rat" is the end of the word. And if you go to freeperville, they write it just like I did above.

14. it's he "CRAT" part, not "rat"
Like bureauCRAT, technoCRAT, autoCRAT ... it has a socialist/apparachik ring to it.

We're lucky they don't call us the Democrachik party.

but that's not what I read. I read it was the "rat" emphasis.

7. It is a Subjective Thing,
but the word "democratic" has positive connotations of equality and fairness, while "Democrat" smacks of partisan politics.

Also, by using a noun like "Democrat" as an adjective, the effect is to harden and objectify.
Think of the difference between calling Lieberman a "Jewish senator" versus a "Jew senator."

8. The best explanation I've found:
http://us-parties.suite101.com/article.cfm/democratic_vs_democrat

When a conservative deliberately says, the “Democrat Party,” instead of the “Democratic Party,” s/he usually means that s/he does not think that party’s principles are democratic but rather are communistic, socialistic, authoritarian, dictatorial, or some other quality that runs counter to traditional American democratic, people-oriented values.

29. The reason I thought they
said "democrat party" was because they didn't want to remind people that we're the Democratic Party..same kind of thing.

13. Because "Democrat party" implies its about individuals (ie rich power-hunrgy politicians), whereas
the other is about the democratic principle.

30. It's not the name of the party
that's enough reason to be insulted. If you tell someone what your name is and they insist on calling you something else - aren't you insulted?

It's not grammatical - another reason.

The main reason to be insulted though, is that the Repubs - who do not like democracy - in calling our party the Democrat Party are specifically deemphasizing "democratic" - because they discovered (probably through that Luntz guy) people respond positively to that word. People generally like governments that operate in a democratic way and parties that have democratic ideals.

So they are trying to dissasociate us from our true name so that positive impression, triggered by hearing the word "democratic," is broken.

Straighten out your relatives. I've never heard a member of the Democratic Party call it the Democrat Party. And I've been around for a long time.

3. I hope he holds onto the time slot
Someone twittered last week and asked him why they don't rerun the show on the weeknights, and he said it was because his ratings aren't high enough. So much better in that timeslot than Gregory (or, ugh, Tucker). I remember during the campaign when there could be five "I HATE DAVID GREGORY!" threads on a night, heh.

15. People need to DVR it because those numbers are counted in the ratings. Even if you generally
can watch it live so you don't need to DVR/TIVO it, do it anyone just so his numbers go up.

Of course, you can only do that if you actually have one so it doesn't work for everybody. ;)

18. So we can only see his response, right? We can't see the questions people ask.
That is what I've seen when I check these out. Am I missing something or is that the way it works? If you sign up at Twitter then can you ask/email anybody a question who has a Twitter site?

I've been reading some - Claire McCaskill, Ana Marie Cox, Shuster - but am still figuring it out.
