The National Weather Service is a WASTE OF MONEY!
Edited on Wed Feb-25-09 11:44 PM by KansasVoter
Give me a break! 96% of the time the weather here in Kansas is
fine. Why in the hell are taxpayers paying millions a year for
Radar and weathermen?

We get maybe 10-15 days of bad weather a year. Some bad snow
and a few tornadoes now and then.

And how much money is wasted on Tornado Watches when 90% of
the time no tornado shows up?

Instead of weather offices funded by the taxpayers why not
just have the people who live in the city look out the damn
window and warn people when bad weather is coming?? Doesn't
that make sense??

The NWS is another example of the government sticking their
nose in where it should not be!!

Also, base on my research with Bobby Jindal, Tornadoes are
really not a threat anymore. Look at the chart below. All of
the top 10 worst killer Tornadoes happened BEFORE 1955!!! So
it seems like tornados are no longer dangerous! Not one in the
top 10 list happened in the last 55 years!!!! And we still are
building Doppler radars even though Tornadoes are no longer
killing a lot of people!!!

Please contact your senator tomorrow and ask that the NWS and
any other government group that spends money on stupid things
stop spending our money!!!

3. Right, just like those dang volcanos. They obviously blow up because
we're watching them too much.

2. This has got to be sarcasm!
If not, did it ever occur to you that the death toll was higher then because there was no warning system?

7. Exactly! A "National Weather Service" is as much of a dinosaur as NEWSPAPERS!
Who needs either of them these days? We can get the weather, and the news a lot more stylishly these days by Twittering to each other over our iPods!

Total anarchronisms! Like radio, landlines or free TV.

8. or maybe people should be able to opt out - you know, pay less in taxes
if you promise never to look at a weather forecast, or take a plane where they use weather forecasts, etc.

11. I blame it on the ever increasing Nanny statism foisted upon us
by those nasty liberals. Gone are the good old days when a man would take personal responsibility for stepping outside to check the weather and if that man happened to see a tornado, tsunami, lava flow coming his way, would have the decency and pure masculine grit to simply accept Gods will and die quietly along with his loved ones.

Give me a break! 99.9% of the time our security here in the USA is secure. Why the hell are taxpayers paying billions a year for WMD, fighter jets, warships and such?

We get maybe 1-2 wars a decade. The occasional terrorist threat and rogue state threat now and then.

And how much time is wasted on those Terror Alerts when 99.99999% of the time no terrorists show up?

Instead of army bases funded by the taxpayer why not just have the people buy their own AK47? If a terrorist is coming, they can just shoot them.

The Armed Forces is another example of the government sticking their nose in where it should not be!!

...

OK that's a start on the rewrite, you can fix the rest.

Mark.

PS: Personally I think we need the military. Certainly I think it needs some "reorganization" and a spending review... but we need a strong military, kinda cos we're like the worlds' policeman - in days before Bush we could just sabre rattle and things would go away... but Bush wrecked that with Iraq and to a lesser extent Afghanistan. (Iraq bad idea, badly executed. Yes good to see Saddam go but by golly there's a big mess there now :( - Afghanistan: yes initially but badly executed and not enough attention paid/resources given because of ... Iraq).
