not redecorating the house before strenghtening the foundation (a metaphor) when talking about the budget. And this reporter, probably one of Rupert's minons, took this literally enough to ask Gibbs whether the Obama's should not redecorate the children's rooms at the WH. 'cause the kids should just suck it up and not have a nice place to lay their sleeping heads. Even though Congress always appropriates money for this after a new administration.

Gibbs contained his laughter and said that he didn't recall the previous administration having a 7 year old or a 10 year old. Only folks who acted like that. (Ok, that last part was mine)

8. Some nitwit reporter....

...asked if it was "appropriate for the Obamas to hire a decorator with tax dollars" given the current financial mess the country is in. Gibbs had to explain to her that Congress allots the incoming President money to do so. In the Obama's case, they also have young children moving into the White House, making even more appropriate.
