O, Roland Burris Will You Please Go Now!
Your time has come
And gone.
You’ve had your moment in the sun
Too long.

The new governor says step down
Fellow senators say the same
Obama’s spokesmen sound like they
Don’t want to hear your name.

Can you not see

That your welcome’s worn out?

Don't make us scream

Do not make us shout!

Roland W. Burris, please,

Just get out.

Just step.
Step.
Step away now!
It matters not how
You can ride a snowplow
Or an old Guernsey cow

You can ride a skateboard
You can sail a sailboard
You can drive a Smart Car
Or Chevy or Ford.

You can ride on a tractor
Or a velociraptor

You can step out on stilts
(Just don't dress in kilts)

Drive a big Escalade
Or some sharp Rollerblades.

Please, please, Roland Burris,
Please, please step aside
Saddle up! Slap leather!
Jump on your pony! And ride!

Take your scarf and your cape
Please don’t make us wait

Leave your bully pulpit.
Climb in a cockpit

Of a new Piper Cub
Or row, row, row

In an old bathtub

You can vault on a pole
Or dig an escape hole
Sail away on a breeze
With ham, crackers and cheese

It matters not what nor when nor who.
Just pack your bags and slip away. Shoo!

Leave!
Exit!
Split!
Vamoose!

Roll out!
Mount up!
Ride out!
Toodle-oo!

Ah, Roland W. Burris

You are making us nervous

We beg on our knees!
Just p-l-e-a-s-e go now.
Please!

Just give us a break
Make no more mistakes.

We’ll pay your room and board
To end this discord

No one has the stomach
For an impeachment again
Don’t force a special election.

(Eek! A Republican might win!)

Exit! Get lost! Sayonara! Go 'way!
Auf Wiedersehen! Bye-bye! Farewell! Amscray!

Please, Roland Burris,
Bid the Senate adieu
Or Illinois’ voters might do it for you.

4. I'm all for him resigning, but I don't want a special election
That seat has to stay in Democratic hands. Special elections make me nervous.

11. Do you want the Employee Free Choice Act to pass?
There is a narrow window of time to make that happen. We have the votes in the House, but to clear cloture in the Senate we need Al Franken, which could take another month or two, and a Democratic senator from Illinois.

13. I'm thinking we are gonna vote in mark kirk, a republican who convinced many he is a moderate.
He's not. Governor Quinn doesn't want to appoint a senator. He wants a special election. I can't blame him. If he picks someone who turns out to be a mess it would just make things worse and it would ruin his career. I like Governor Quinn. I just worry about this senate seat.

14. What Democrats would run.. and why would Mr. Kirk have an advantage over them?
.
.

I mean... just because Blago is an asshole, it doesn't mean residents would automatically vote in an r-THUG over a good Democratic candidate does it? ..

..

15. kirk is a right winger who won a congressional seat in a blue area.
IL is not as blue as you think. We have had our share of Republican senators and governors. I hear the local news and feel the pendulum swinging in the direction towards the right.

16. Welp..
.
.

Ahhhhh Pendulum Schmedulum.

I still think that it all depends on who the Democratic Party puts up.

BTW, we get WGN Chicago News live here in Anchorage! ..I watch it every once in a while and am always amazed at how much time they spend on Burris every night!! Seems like he always takes up the first 5 or more minutes of every broadcast..

20. The poem is clever and good
I know Roland Burris lied his ass off in getting seated to the U.S. Senate.

Not only did he in fact dial for dollars, but he also has the conflict of interest his son's employment created in city/state government. There is no defense of his lies or his lies being the cause for him being seated in the first place. He continued to use his good name as the basis for being seated.

Now that he is there. Now that his good name is in question. Now that his lies have caught up with him and he might be censored and dismissed from the U.S. Senate by an ethics review. My question is if he wanted his moment in public to shine and he has received it, what personal reason exists now to get out of the way for the benefit of anyone but himself?

He might be in disgrace and have a fire storm surrounding him, but if his disrepute can last for 2 years what reason does he have not to ride it out?
