This is a wonderful speech this morning.
Most striking to me was his direct talk to the people of Iraq. It's very moving, yet thoughtful and sensible.
Obama sure has an ear for managing the emotional and political. He intertwines the two so well, it's like poetry.

4. It's gotten me bleary eyed
I'm hard left and anti war. But troops deserve to be appreciated by their CIC and they're hearing this today.

This is terrific!

5. Pres Obama is giving the troops solid rewards for their hard work
unlike boosh who would barely gave the troops the time of day.

Thank you President Obama!

8. It was great and the troops seemed to enjoy it., but here's what struck me the most
President Obama declared victory and is now ending the unjust war that Bush started, so what boggles my mind is why George Bush didn't do this before he left office?

Obama will, forever, be remembered as the President who victoriously ended the Iraq war. It will be his legacy, among many other great deeds no doubt. But it could have been part of Bush's legacy. So why didn't he do it? Is he THAT stubborn or stupid or beholden to what Cheney allows him to do? My guess is all three. If he was listening this morning, I'll bet he's just figured out what a horrible mistake he made not ending the war before he left office. Bush has done so many horrible and corrupt things, and he had the chance to do one thing right . . . end the war. He choose not too.

Wow. I just heard Gen. McCafferty give OBama HUGE kudos for his speech and the way he connected to the troops. He said it brought a tear to his eye. Holy shit. That's amazing!

9. I don't think he ever 'got' what was necessary to do. And if...
...we did get it, he wouldn't have had the credibility to pull it off anyway.

With this speech we begin to end a war, while honoring the soldiers who were sent there. Doing so will prevent what happened after Viet Nam...a country divided for decades afterward. This speech was about a way forward that will do the right thing for the Iraqi people, and bring unity to our country.

GREAT speech, Mr. President! As an American who is tired of the divisiveness of the last several years, I applaud you.
