Obama gives Bush a courtesy call before announcing his Iraq withdrawal plan
Obama is better than they are, hell he's better than I am probably. I doubt I could ever be as magnanimous as he is. That's why he'll win again in four years though. He's simply better than they are and he stays that way even when they are at their worst. Especially then. He makes me want to be a better person. -WB

Obama Makes a Courtesy Call to George W. Bush

By Anne E. Kornblut
CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. -- Before announcing his plan for withdrawing troops from Iraq, President Obama made an intriguing courtesy call on Friday morning: to former president George W. Bush, who began the war that Obama has so vehemently opposed.

White House officials did not elaborate on the call, which Obama placed from a holding room at Camp Lejeune just moments before he gave his long-awaited speech. Robert Gibbs, the White House press secretary, said Obama made the call "as a courtesy" to the former president.

Earlier in the day, aboard Air Force One, Obama called another interested party, Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri Al-Maliki. The Iraqi prime minister had already declared that he was unconcerned about the troop withdrawals, which will leave about 50,000 U.S. troops in place even after the bulk of the forces leave in August of 2010.

Obama is delivering his address to thousands of service members here.

1. Too polite
And not soon enough.

And I am rethinking Afghanistan. If we don't get more cooperation from Pakistan, we should pull out of there too.

3. how about we simply pull out of there also
because let's face it, the war on terror has to be fought through law enforcement not military enforcement.

10. You're half right.
Law enforcement should be a main thrust, as should diplomacy and the "get off oil" movement.
The military WILL have a role, though not by far the main one, as there are the core, committed jihadists who will not hear any language but force.

14. Law enforcement doesn't have access to Predator drones armed with AGM-114 Hellfire missiles ...
to fly straight up Osama bin Laden's ass. There is definitely a role for the military in this fight. We simply require a C-in-C who doesn't send them into a sovereign nation just to prove that his dick is as big as Daddy's.

7. We don't know about the politeness
I'm enjoying the following mental image:

"Hello?"

"Mr. Bush?"

"Speakin'."

"THBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBT"

Little gestures like that are a reason Obama has gotten where he is at in life.

5. Too bad Bush didn't give Obama a courtesy flush before he stank up the joint
just before he exited the stall

Obama is taking this "nice" thing too far, imho. Gives Bush et al the sense that everything they did was fine.

6. He's a class act
I'm not convinced Bush deserves his courtesy, but there's no denying this was a class act Obama's part.

8. He is indeed. And smarter than most, too

Too many people, myself included would take every opportunity to 'get back' at bush and the rest of the republicans. Not President Obama. He NEVER delibertly leaves a enemy in his wake, seething in frustration. Even when he beats them up, and they're laying there bleeding, he ALWAYS acts like a gentleman, and treats them like they're gentlemen too. Sometimes it pays off (Lieberman,Bill & Hill) and sometimes it doesn't (McCain), but it leaves fewer people waiting to stick a knife in his back.

I didn't start out on Obamas team, but he has sure made me a believer.

12. Seems he works out of...
The New Testament:
Romans 12:20 -

BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.

How ironic is it, to destroy Republicans with the very principles they falsely claim to value?
