The odds are good that Rupert Murdoch and Sean Hannity will cause an assassination attempt

THE BUZZFLASH EDITOR'S BLOG
by Mark Karlin

Yes, with the civil war talk on the program of the recently acquired FOX News demagogue, Glenn Beck, inflammatory talk by Sean Hannity, and Rush Limbaugh's nativist rants that equate Obama to something akin to an amalgamation of Karl Marx and Adolf Hitler, the right-wing media is stirring up the dangerous angry white male resentment to a dangerous frenzied pitch.

And we all know where that ended up with Timothy McVeigh and the militia movement of the '90s, which was enabled by the right-wing media barons -- such as Rupert Murdoch -- to create a literal armed militia movement against the government of the United States.

Call it treasonous, call it demagoguery, call it treachery: it is what comes down the pike when the wealthy Democratic elites are more content to fund organizations that criticize the apocalyptic, brown-shirted Murdoch media barons rather than buying up media and delivering an alternative message that emphasizes loyalty to the truth, Constitution and democracy.

Sure, we love Media Matters, but they are just a fly on a donkey's butt as far as Rupert Murdoch and the gang are concerned. Media Matters will get an occasional correction of factual errors -- if they pull out all their guns for one, but it's too little a compensation for the energy put into the effort. And the people who take in the corporate media remember the misleading assertion, not the rare convoluted retraction.

1. Good read.
I agree that it's time for a wealthy democrat to step up and offer an alternative message to Fox. Sure, MSNBC has KO and Rachel, but that accounts for 2 hours of the 24 hour news cycle. If Fox is going to beat the republican war drum 24 hours a day, we need someone to too.

Fortunately, more and more people are getting their news from the web, and we have wildly popular sites like HuffPo and DailyKos on our side.

3. Wasn't Hannity one of the authors the killer who walked into the liberal
church and shot up a bunch of people was reading? He has already incited violence. It is time that hate radio is recognized for what it is.

10. I've said it before and I will say it again
I think H2O Man wrote a satiric statement about the furor the Right set up and set off with Kennedy coming to Dallas. Handbills were distributed a couple days prior to Kennedy's visit. A newspaper article was laid out to indict Kennedy of treasonous charges. Then a gunman acting in concert with other people did the unthinkable. Our nation still mourns the result.

Why don't we (the citizen we) have a plan of acting to circumvent this kind of hateful rhetoric? On one hand, we have the wackos dehumanizing the Obamas by making them akin to beasts like monkeys. It is easier to attack that which is not human. On the other hand, there is the not my gun, can't do this to my country, and he is not really an American crowd moving forward.

How do you redirect this kind of animosity before it gets a head of steam?

There are non profits like the Southern Poverty Law Center. Who covers their reports to highlight what aspects of the militia/white supremacists are doing?

Who is going forward to their state/local law enforcement agencies to ask what is being done to halt their threats against people in the community?

It takes everyone working together to say not in my community, not on my block, and not in my schools.
