Ty'Sheoma and the 'corridor of shame'
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/tysheoma-and-the-corridor-of-shame-1634254.html

A letter from a 14-year-old has helped Obama lift the lid on the murky truth about the funding of education in black and minority neighbourhoods. Leonard Doyle reports from Dillon, South Carolina

As teacher James Moultrie turned to his pupils and asked what the term "40 acres and a mule" meant, a freight train thundered past his classroom. Eager hands shot up, including that of Ty'Sheoma Bethea, the school's new celebrity since a letter she wrote featured in Barack Obama's maiden address to Congress on Tuesday.

Any answers the 14-year-old and her classmates might have been about to give were stillborn. The teacher's question hung in the air as the train kept coming. For six long minutes it rattled the windows of the prefab classroom and shook the foundations of an adjoining 1890s schoolhouse.

1. No reason for this
no reason at all. Schools should be located in a setting that condones education and does not take away from it.

3. You are absolutely right.
This should be America's shame. With the shovel ready projects I am hopeful that new schools will be built especially this one.

2. Reminds me of that short story where smart people receive electric shocks every so often so they
don't think deep thoughts, thereby advantaging them over their average smarts peers.

4. And they have an arrogant Governor there
He wants to be President. Yet has done nothing about this school
