We should all archive this as Republicans try to re-write history to suggest that they were dragged kicking and screaming to support Bush's economic policies. For example, here is one very funny press release from Boehner's website. Of course, they will probably soon be deleted, so review them while you can.

Capitol Hill Democrats Proven Wrong on Bush Budget

Washington, Oct 11, 2006 - Sustained job creation and strong economic growth, boosted by tax relief and rising worker paychecks, are flooding the coffers of the federal government with greater-than-expected tax revenues. When President Bush outlines the final budget figures later today, he is expected to announce that his goal of cutting the deficit in half by 2009 has been met three years ahead of schedule.

"President Bush was right on the budget and Capitol Hill Democrats were wrong. The Republican approach of strengthening our economy, creating more jobs, exercising fiscal restraint, and keeping taxes low continues to pay dividends for American taxpayers." - House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH)

Of course when the President announced his goal of cutting the deficit in half by 2009 it was greeted as unrealistic and met with ridicule from Capitol Hill Democrats. They said it could not be done. Simply put, they were all wrong. Not only will the goal be met, but it will be met ahead of schedule with three years to spare. Following are just a few of the erroneous predictions from Capitol Hill Democrats that have been proven wrong:

"Last year Mr. Bush promised us that he had a plan, a plan that would cut the deficit by half over the next five years. Well, last year, this year, and next year - as you can see here - the budget is clearly not on that path, nowhere near it."
Rep. John Spratt (D-SC) - News conference on the budget, February 7, 2005

"It is time for the Administration to be straightforward with the American people about the choices they are making on their behalf - painful cuts in important and popular domestic programs in return for virtually no reduction in the deficits."
Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), House Minority Whip - Press Release, February 5, 2004

"President Bush claims to be taking our nation down the road toward cutting budget deficits in half, but an examination of his budget demonstrates that when all the costs are included the deficits will grow even larger under his spending plan, burdening our children and their children with huge tax bills to pay down the debt."
Sen. Diane Feinstein (D-CA) - Press release, February 7, 2005

"It is more likely that they will find a nuclear bomb in Baghdad than they will succeed at cutting the deficit in half by 2009."
John Podesta, former Chief of Staff for President Clinton and current president of the Center for American Progress - "Plan tries to reverse rising tide of red ink," Chicago Tribune, February 3, 2004

Capitol Hill Democrats are scratching their heads today wondering where they went wrong. But Republicans understand that pro-growth economic policies which create good-paying jobs and keep taxes low will work together and keep America prosperous.

It's another clear difference between Democrats who are addicted to tax hikes as a means to fund more government and Republicans whose stewardship of the economy has resulted in 6.6 million new jobs since August 2003, 37 consecutive months of job creation, strong growth is workers' wages, and a low 4.6 percent unemployment rate.

The piece ends "Its another clear difference between Democrats...and Republicans..."
