AP Writes on Jon Stewart's "Brutal Takedown" of CNBC
Linky goodness.

John McCain learned that lesson the hard way with David Letterman last fall, and CNBC reporter Rick Santelli just took it on the chin from Jon Stewart. Santelli and his network wouldn't comment Thursday on Stewart's brutal takedown during Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" on Wednesday.

Santelli became an instant online star when millions of people watched copies of his CNBC criticism that President Barack Obama's housing plan was "promoting bad behavior" by rewarding people who might otherwise be foreclosed. He was booked to appear on Stewart's show Wednesday.

But he backed out Friday, with CNBC spokesman Brian Steel saying that "we all made a decision it was just time to move on to the next story."

Said Stewart: "I guess the phrase would be bailed out."

--snip--

Stewart then turned to CNBC itself, airing a selection of clips from personalities like Jim Cramer giving opinions and predictions about the economy that in retrospect looked spectacularly ill-informed.

"If I had only followed CNBC's advice, I'd have a million dollars today," Stewart said, "provided I'd started with $100 million."

CNBC's Steel said neither the network's executives nor Santelli would comment on Stewart's broadcast.

P.S. When you go to the story, rec it at the bottom of the page so it gets more publicity.

Talk about Stewart's 'moment'. He nailed it so well, so hard.

After having seen our 401k DESTROYED by these crooks, have our money used for expensive trashcans and then be lectured by this asshole, it was welcomed viewing.

4. And they have worthless cretins.
Just look at the republican party leaders: Limbaugh, Palin, Joe the Plumber, Ronald Reagan. So - they are led by a gasbag, an airhead, a nobody, and a dead guy. We have Obama and Jon Stewart.

The republicans are just so pathetic. It's pitiful.

24. Which is exactly why I was so annoyed at the MSM coverage this kid got.
He has had virtually no real-life experiences to form his politcal views. While I admit that this is a smart, articulate kid, he is expounding what he has been spoon-fed, not meaningful opinion based on any thoughts or experiences. Fine, they can eat that up at CPAC but to have that amount of coverage on MSM just took them (MSM) down another good notch in my impression of their worthiness.

I always watch the Oscars but didn't realize they were on last year with all the writers' strike and all..so I missed Jon hosting but it does seem good to get an entertainer like Jackman..the thing I don't like is when the host starts making fun of some poor thing, who just had some bad luck..I don't think Jackman did that.

I didn't like the gushy part of it, either, when all those former winners came out and told each nominee how great they were. But, the latest graphics on screen were phenomenal.

I hardly ever watch the Oscars in their entirety, but I did this year for whatever the reasons. Always a fan of what folks are wearing, mainly the duds. Jackman was entertaining, but found how damn good-looking he was distracting. Like Stewart asked, how did this "Triton" end up singing and dancing?!

I liked the former winners coming out (focus on a group rather than the individual) but you're right, they laid it on waaaaay too thick. Some of it seemed sincere, but most came across as just reading from the teleprompter.

In keeping with the OP, both Stewart and Letterman can barely hide their disdain for what's going on with Wall Street, Madoff, etc. And I thank Letterman for jumping on the "Limpballs is the head of the GOP" bandwagon. He had a hilarious line the other night about how if he hears any more about Rush Limbaugh, he's going to send his own housekeeper out for some illegal prescription drugs -- classic Dave snark.

39. Whoa!~ Thanks for telling
me about that.. "He had a hilarious line the other night about how if he hears any more about Rush Limbaugh, he's going to send his own housekeeper out for some illegal prescription drugs -- classic Dave snark."

I saw Dave talking to Katie Couric right after that "conservative meeting" that was televised and one thing he said about limbaugh had everyone cracking up including Katie when he noted that rush looked like a Russian Mobster with his shirt open with his flesh showing and one thing we did not need to see was more of rush limbaugh's flesh.
I'm thinking at the time.."good, get this guy talked about so the rest of America will know what he's capable of as he's always been a danger to America."

In keeping with the OT..I liked the premise too of having the whole group in focus but the only sincere one, I remember, was Bob DeNiro talking about Sean Penn.

42. Doesn't anyone else see the connection to Propaganda exposed here?
It is clear that the media is just another tool in the arsenal of the Opinion Shapers. The ones that like to prod, push, suggest and motivate the masses to do things that are in their best interest.

Advertisements are accepted in the American Media. They have been used many times over the years for the benefit of Known Toxic Products and have harmed millions of people.

Cigarettes. This was known to be harmful, but it made boatloads of money, so the Opinion shapers used terms like "Freedom", a associated "Womens Voting" with cigarrettes as a means to increase sales.

Cars. The government had a huge war machine left over after WWII. America needed jobs, so the Government promotes 2 cars in every garage. The road system ran out of space, so the Interstate Highway system was linked into "National Security"

DDT. The safety of the product was touted by the same people that made money off it, until the devastating effects on the environment were discovered by the trusting masses.

Nuclear Power. Gestated within the Military womb, the Bomb was a patriotic way to protect us from those bad old commies that just happen to be the same race, but are bent on destroying every last one of us to get some ephermorous thing. Huge corporations with the help of U.S. Government, and National Security used the media to convince Americans that it was the only thing to do. It promised "Energy too cheap to meter", and sucked all the research money it could get. Solar Power was starved so the Nuclear Industry to be escalated to the point where they discovered that it was very expensive to design something with 100% operational safety. A nuclear reactor takes the centuries old idea of a Steam Bolier, and uses a Nuclear furnace to boil the water. How innovative.

Fluoride. This amazingly abundant toxic by product was polluting and killing millions of people and livestock, and threatened industrial production of Aluminum, Fluorine and about a million other chemical products. Workers were getting sick with strange diseases. In a brilliant move, the Government concocts a little scheme that allows small doses of this substance into toothpase and the water supply, thus contaminating nearly everyone in America with this compound. The end result? No more litigation is possible against the polluters, and the Government now has a mechanism for introducing chemical compounds into the water supply. Mandatory medication time. The evidence is coming in that fluoridation has very little effect on tooth decay, and that the data was handpicked to show its harmlessness. It is now known to be a toxic substance, and very small amounts behave similar to a neuro-toxin.

Dot.Com bubble. Restriction removed in order to finance a phony economy of High Tech buildup in absence of reduced Military funding. Enron, Worldcom, Tyco, etc fed on it to the point of indigestion. The crash was used to pull money out of the U.S. and invest it abroad, as India and China now appeared to have the same appetites and Americans.

Globalization and jobs are shipped overseas, but most of this is hidden from the public, because those that were let go decided to change careers, leave the system, or go into real estate speculation.

In a flight to safety, and without reasonable means to save money, the displaced Americans were herded into Real Estate speculation by a vocal Mortgage and loan industry. Why save a few dollars in a savings account for 1.33% interest annualy, when you can get 100% profits in month or two on spec houses? The cheerleaders ignored the fundamentals without seeing the unsustainabilty.

The Current Mass Media is just another tool to shape opinions by the Government.

Ask yourself why information on the Genetically Modified Food is never presented on Mass Media? If it is, it is dismissed much the same way that Bobby Jindel's abysmal speech was framed by Britt Hume on Fox News, with GMO's being to poor, misunderstood technology that is fighting thos bad old Tree Huggers in order to feed the world. The truth is that if the facts and real information were ever given to the American public, they would go ape, both government and corporate entities would be liable for criminally endangering the people, environment and the world in the name of greed and control.

Ask yourself why the talking heads want you to put your money into the Stock Market.

Ask yourself why these talking heads are so vacuous and shallow thinking.

We are a people no longer in control of our Government. The corporations are realizing this, but public backlash is building to a point of no return. They know this and they are very scared, which explains the moves towards fascism, removal of basic rights, and the complete 180 degree disagreement with what the citizens want compared to what the Government does.

The citizens see that no matter how loudly they rattle the gates, it makes no difference to the people that write the laws.

While Obama throws a few bones to the citizens now and then, it is not up to him when the system of the House, Senate and regulatory agencies are so corrupted as to be autonomous fiefdoms catering to their special interests.

It will take a grand awakening to break the back of the corrupt system. I think the only way to take back our government is to perform Non-violent resistance to the insane regulations that cater to the Polluters, Big Banks, and Military, while we get to pay for it.

Many of these systems depend on legions of obedient drones to function. They can't outsource these functions, so when people in masse decide that they aren't going to take it anymore, things will change.

There is a reason why Ghandi was assassinated, and that was because he demonstrated that when united, the Citizens ultimately wield total control of the government.

It's funny until the Daly Show clip, I never realized how far if those guys/ladies at CNBC were. I knew Kramer had a memory disorder....his new solid, forceful belief every day, usually the opposite of the previous days, confirmed his disorder for me. Honestly though the misguided "advice" they offer is pretty damn prevalent.
