Mocking the GOP - what if it backfires?

while it is amusing to see the constant mocking of conservatives and their shrinking party, i can't help but wonder if it will all backfire on the rest of us. i hope this doesn't lead to complacency on our part :(.

i'm very happy with all the things the President has done during his first 100 days. but we can't forget that for many people, their biggest concerns are the economy and the two wars. what if things don't work out the way we hope it will? isn't possible that we could still see viable GOP contenders in 2010 and 2012?

i guess my point is that i hope we don't let our guard down while the other team is trying to put a game plan together. we may laugh and ridicule their situation now, but who knows what will happen in 2010 and 2012; sometimes those who stick to their guns are the ones who also come out on top. learning about the last 8 years have left me shaken and i hope we never ever go back to it again :scared:.

The democratic party was supposedly on its heels after the Gingrich clowns took over, and after * was awarded the prize in 2000 and 2004.
The bottom line is that when one party gets power, a recession or some trauma will invariably hit at some point and the tide swings the other way. Hopefully, when the repubs get some luck and and get some momentum (hopefully no time soon), they will come back less a@$hole-ish.

The failures of the Bush administration will not be easily overcome. They are just too serious to be easily overcome.

The Republican Party's present constituency is dominated by Southern racists, evangelical Bible thumping fundamentalists and solely directed by and for the benefit of the wealthiest Americans. It has an increasingly limited appeal to the majority of Americans.

The largest and fastest growing segment of voters are Independents. This group is quickly being dominated by younger voters who have come to the realization that if they are to have any hope in a future they had better abandon their apathetic attitudes in regard to politics. The young people that I talked to during the campaign were not only much better informed than most of my Republican associates, but very much aware that they had to most to lose or gain from who is elected. There has been an awaking throughout America that while we slept a cult of radical PNAC neo-cons had brought the nation to the point of ruin.

The Republicans are presently on the wrong side of every issue ranging from abortion to war and greed with little hope of attracting any new adherents. It will have to under go dramatic changes that would require them to abandon their core constituency or become a minor party of no consequence.

26. The GOP gave us GW Bush and an economy in the shitter. They deserve to be mocked.

As in 1932, we are going to need essentially 1 party rule to get things straight again. As Obama said, we tried it their way. It didn't work. Now we need to try something else for a while. The Democratic Party has a record of being able to push through the reforms necessary to make a modern economy work. The Republican's record is one of abject failure - at most they have been able to tinker around the edges. If the Republicans had cooperated with HST after WWII and in passing a single payer national health care system to go along with social security we would not be in this mess where our industries cannot compete with the rest of the industrialized world because of the costs of health care and retirement.

because they are still having to answer to Rush, and Hannity. That is the problem with letting those talking heads have as much power as they do.
