Schwarzenegger May Support a Democrat
LOS ANGELES — If Republican candidates for governor of California are hoping for an automatic high five from the sitting governor, they ought not to get too comfortable.

When asked Friday after giving a speech on health care in which he highly praised President Obama and other Democrats whether he would ever consider endorsing a Democrat to replace him, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger said, “It could happen, yes.”

The governor offered no specifics on any particular candidate he might support.

Mr. Schwarzenegger, estranged from the leaders in his state party and at odds with some national Republicans on matters fiscal and environmental, remains a powerful figure in the national party, with his celebrity status and engaging speaking style. While low in the polls, he remains a governor voters are highly attuned to.

3. Wouldn't surprise me, what's he got to lose by doing it
Schwarzenegger has shown no sign of wanting to be a senator, and I doubt he'll run for other statewide offices again either, so he's really free to speak his mind if he'll retire from running for political office. With how radical the republican party has been becoming lately it's no wonder that a moderate like him would consider endorsing a democrat.

5. Why doesn't he just dump the party already?
Seriously. The right-wing hates him, he hates them, so why keep this charade up?

6. We all remember how old Arnold came to power
A fake crisis engineered by Enron to steel money and damage the democrats in California, most likely coordinated with the White House.

The GOP can keep Arnold and Arnold can keep his fucking endorsement.

8. Arnold's hoping for a cabinet position.

I don't think he's done with politics, and there's really no place for him to go. He can't run for reelection, his own popularity has suffered, and Boxer would kick his ass.

He likes President Obama, personally and politically, and I think he wants a cabinet position. By staying in the republican party it makes Obama look bi-partison to appoint him to something.

12. Well Arnold had just that chance, as he could have endorsed Barack Obama for Prez.
Instead he went with old John McCain. So he already missed his chance, far as I'm concerned.

13. Ahnold by his own admission became a puke becauase of Tricky Dick
He spoke at the RNC in 2004 and had his lips so far up Bush's ass he could tell what Bush ate for dinner. He is a repuke through and through. He may not be a conservative, but he is a repuke. At least some like Collins/Snowe/Specter muted their support of the shrub. The Guvernator was cheerleadng him and his daddy for a long time. I just can't see him supporting a Dem. He has nothing to gain from it. It really seems like something he would say just to try to have something on record to point to and say "See, I'm not partisan; I considered endorsing a Democrat!"
