Sorry about the screwy formatting, due to the size of the first image. I couldn't resist.

Obamas' night out: Citronelle and a walk
Posted May 2, 2009 9:00 PM

by Mark Silva

Life outside the bubble:

The Obamas went out for dinner tonight.

And they didn't go for clam strips at the HoJo.

The first couple slipped out of the White House tonight for dinner at Citronelle, one of Washington's premier restaurants, the production of a prize-winning chef, Michel Richard, with a wine cellar holding about 8,000 bottles.

The president wore a dark suit but no tie, the first lady a white sleeves-rolled blouse tied in the back, with black capri pants, her hair pulled tight in a pony tail.

A crowd assembled on M Street outside the restaurant, with one woman pacing and shouting into a bullhorn: "This is so great that you are here... Create fear and terror."

The crowd appeared to ignore her.

The Obamas, who had left the White House by motorcade just before 6 pm EDT, left the restaurant for the return home just before 8.

They strolled the South Lawn a bit.

The Bulls were playing.

3. Heh, he's like me during crucial must-win game 7s...
When the Jazz and Rockets were playing in game 7 a couple years back, I couldn't bring myself to watch, so I went for a walk and took a nap, then caught the end of the game (a Utah victory :) ).

It's tense, baby.

4. There's a GREAT jazz house just west of there in Georgetown.
Edited on Sat May-02-09 09:27 PM by TahitiNut
It's called "Blues Alley" and it's a little slice of heaven for any jazz lover. (I wish they could've gone.)

(Then again, they live in what becomes the best jazz house on earth, at times.)

17. Ringside. Monty Alexander. 90 minute sets with 15 minute breaks. No distractions.
Service staff that makes NO noise (not even cash register), wears black clothing and sneakers and an audience that knows better than to clink glasses or even whisper when the performer is playing.

Heaven.

Bliss.

15. The crowd should have eased her out. I remember at one of Paul
Wellstone's speeches a guy was heckling him from the back and a bunch of us jointly moved around him and pushed him down the street until he was standing alone.

6. I like the romance and all of date nites, but really - I don't need to be privy to all of this...
Did he nibble her neck? Or did he just hold her hand?

C'mon.

20. Ah well..the
Life of a Prez in a Fish Bowl. I think they knew they signed up for this..only 8 years to help our country get on the right track and then they're still young enough to enjoy the heck out of their precious privacy as only it would be after 8 years of this.

8. Had I known that all one needed was just oneself and a bullhorn
to get featured in a story about a President, I would have done it ages ago.

Of course, if you are part of a crowd, no mention as to what you thought will be printed!
Only if you show up by yourself....well, you and a bullhorn.

See what one can learn about community activism just by reading!

10. it's interesting. surely they don't announce where O & M are going
right? So this woman just happens to have a bullhorn on her?

It is very exciting to see them though. At the inauguration we were having dinner in Dupont Cir and from the window, saw cops stopping traffic. So, we ran down to the street, and crowds had gathered. I will always remember the sounds of people cheering and screaming and the thrill of watching that motorcade flash by.

waving.." Yes, we're going out to eat and we're hungry, okay":)
