Poll question: Diversity, Not Politics, Key to Court Pick: What's your preference?
Edited on Sun May-03-09 07:33 PM by Liberal_in_LA
Given all the talk about Obama using Souter's retirement as an opportunity to put 'diversity' on the bench, what is your preference?

Diversity, Not Politics, Key to Court Pick
Replacing Liberal Souter, Obama Unlikely to Change Court Ideology
By THERESA COOK
WASHINGTON, May 3, 2009
As President Obama considers his pick to replace retiring Supreme Court Justice David Souter, the buzz in Washington is less about political ideology and more about getting diversity on the bench.

13. Are there any illegal immigrants
with a law degree? I suppose such a person wouldn't meet constitutional requirements but the announcement would cause such chaos/panic among Republicans that Obama could possibly sneak a real liberal on the court.

3. I'm in favor of politics as the criteria.
I don't care who it is as long as the person is extremely progressive. I mean really, really left-wing. Off the charts left-wing (for the U.S., which is moderate by most of the rest of the developed world's standards).

I don't care if the person is male or female, gay or straight, brown or pink, Christian or Pagan. I want a hard-left progressive (not just a wimpy liberal) to begin to bring some balance back to a Court that is overwhelmingly right-wing.

That said, it would be nice if this extremely left-wing person were female.

7. How about a mixed ethnicity bisexual of either gender?

If we're looking for diversity... hell, we should be able to find someone with at least 3 or 4 ethnicities swirled up in a bisexual body. It'll be like a double-scoop of diversity!
