Specter: Norm Coleman Should Be Seated
Specter: Norm Coleman Should Be Seated

The Huffington Post | Rachel Weiner | 05/ 5/09 04:33 PM

Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter has been showing his independence consistently since switching to the Democratic side of the aisle. But his latest display of unorthodox thinking is particularly eye-opening.

In an interview with the New York Times Magazine, the newly minted Democrat said he thinks Republican Norm Coleman should win his Senate recount court battle against Al Franken in Minnesota.

"There's still time for the Minnesota courts to do justice and declare Norm Coleman the winner," Specter said.

Specter's defection was particularly impactful because, assuming Al Franken is eventually seated, the move gives Democrats a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate. Now the senator seems to be saying he does not want that to happen.

Even Republicans have admitted that they expect Franken to prevail.

OK. That's it.

Specter's conversion is officially a cruel joke at the expense of PA Democrats and anyone else with eyes to see and a brain to think.

He's got to go. Now.

5. I think he's going senile.
Hardly anyone other than Norm Coleman thinks that he's going to end up the winner. Maybe not even Norm.

said he never said he was "a loyal dem" that he must be senile..uh, because he did say it to President Obama when he called him with "the switch" news.

Is this the repukes way of trying to embarrass President Obama via arlen specter?

10. He should just retire.
Rendell could appoint Sestak and we could run him in the coming election.

12. Something tells me
specter is like blago and burris in the respect of not ever wanting to retire when it's clear they should.

"Q: With your departure from the Republican Party, there are no more Jewish Republicans in the Senate. Do you care about that?

Specter: I sure do. There’s still time for the Minnesota courts to do justice and declare Norm Coleman the winner."

This *could* be him delivering a rather lame punchline around the preceding question. Justice = More Jewish Senators.

14. I agree that Coleman should be seated. As in, Sit Down and STFU
That's the only kind of seated that should be advocated by Dems, Mr. Specter.
