From Tweety's show last night, he's written a book "War of necessity, war of choice" based on both Iraq wars as he served under both Bushs. He was against this latest war in Iraq but couldn't get heard by the admin. He seemed a reasonable guy.
Tweety kept after him "why did we go into Iraq" and he gave a sense of what the WH was like at the time, scared, after revenge (my words for his sentiments) and finally he said the war in Afghanistan "just didn't itch the scratch" the WH felt after the 9/11 attacks. He implied that the WH wanted more death and destruction after our loss.
I can't get the phrase out of my mind, maybe because it rings so true. I remember Rummy was quoted as saying we went to Iraq because that's where the good targets are.
Don't yell at me but I think this is a function of testosterone. Yes, Golda was different, but I as a woman I can't wrap my head around talk about "we need to do more to get even." Maybe when playing cards but not when playing with lives.
Blood and treasure. To show the world the W swagger was well deserved.
