Multitudes of payers with a "public option" sounds like a prescription for Medicaid for a lot instead of Medicare for ALL.

Some of us have been working for single-payer - for not years - but DECADES. Ralph Nader is not even on the radar screen of serious single-payer advocates. Howard Dean has been talking out of both sides of his mouth and has tried to blur single-payer with "public option." He knows exactly what he's doing. Public option maintains multitudes of payers. Period. End of story. Single-payer eliminates the health insurance industry. What part of that do some people not understand?

Is Dr Dean carrying water for someone? I have always greatly respected him, but as of late I find he is rather cagey about his stand one on single-payer.

Sorry, I like Dr. Dean a great deal. But he is wrong on this one.

There is plenty of material out there that clearly illustrates that the public option and the single payer option are not one and the same. Nor is the public option really much good as a solution to the health care crisis in this country.

Your opinion of Dean or of anyone does not matter to me.

He is striking a middle ground he knows we can get. He is not wrong that Medicare is a public option. He is not a fraud though those links are making him one.

I am very disappointed in this new drive here at DU with Nader and Sirota leading the way.

16. We have already been compromised without our consent.

We were only given a seat at the White House Consortium at the very last minute as a result of a grass roots effort to push the administration to do so. We were not invited to the table at last week's Senate Finance Committee for the discussion by the "stakeholders" of the future of health insurance in this country. Instead when the courageous doctors and nurses favoring single payer raised their voices in protest in terms of not be included in the process they were promptly arrested.

So now you want to talk about compromise...:spray:

Really, madfloridian, you are being just as dogmatic about the middle ground as we are about what we've wanted for decades - true National Health Insurance for all while eliminating private health insurance once and for all. We all feel strongly about what we believe regarding this issue - I honestly don't see anybody here being any more dogmatic about their position than the other. I have no question about your sincerity, I only worry we've got once chance and it's being sent down the river by maintaining (in any way) the very industry that has fleeced Americans for decades. I'm tired too. Good night.
