If you justify every decision Obama makes, how are you different than the freepers the last 8 years?

I say about 70% of us think Obama is right most of the time.

But we also know he has made some mistakes. And will continue to make them. And call him out for them.

There are about 30% of the people here that will defend anything Obama does.

I saw the same thing the last 8 years from the nutty GOP supporters.

It is almost like "If Obama says it then it is right".

I guess blind support goes both ways!

There have been maybe one or two decisions for which I have been completely unable to see from where he is coming. I'm sure though, that he has reasons. For most of the decisions with which I disagree, though, I absolutely see his take.

Glad you mentioned it. I trust Obama to do the right thing just as I trusted cheney to always do the wrong thing (he's still doing it). My impression is that the president has more information available to him than a random person who posts on a discussion board. Second guessing Obama without the full info he has is a fool's game. And there are plenty of fools around ready to play it.

15. You can always tell who is actually familiar with freepers and who is not.

Hint: Freepers were happy to tear Bush a bloody new asshole whenever he so much as hinted that he would not take the most conservative possible position. They started calling him "Jorge Bush" and printing up fake "United States of Mexico pesos" with Dubya's picture on 'em back when he dared to offer an immigration plan slightly more nuanced than "kill all the illegals." The only reason it looked like Freepers always supported Bush was that Bush pretty much always did what they wanted. Whenever he didn't, they were just as petulant, short-sighted, and cannibalistic as DU at its worst.

16. You know, I'm probably in the 30%. It bothers me, but consider this...

How many times has this board gotten worked up about one issue or another, lashing out with sharp disappointment and anger?
Looking back at each one of those episodes, how many of them turned out to reflect well on the president?
Most of them.
So my feeling is, the president and the attorney general and the rest of his cabinet have pledged in various ways to a new standard of ethics, transparency and responsiveness.
There's waaaay more positive evidence than negative evidence that these commitments are being fulfilled.
And so, unlike with Bush, I believe that our current president not only means well, but is responsive and committed to ethics and transparency.

But it isn't black and white, either.

First, Freepers didn't all agree with Bush, though they were probably more homogeneous than we are.

Second, we don't all fall so easily into the categories you describe.

Sometimes, our division is based on our individual priorities--what the president should do first.

Others think that the bailouts are just catering to the wealthy, but fail to see that we all, sadly, depend upon corporation's success (until such time as we can begin to regulate them again).

So that, in the end, I think we are really arguing about Obama's tactics.

I maintain that he has got to work with everyone at the table in order to get things done (and that looks shady to some).

And others don't seem to understand that fucking Congress has to step up.

All the bickering among ourselves---it's really not productive.

There are people here, rather vocal people, one of whom is...well a former friend, someone I've met in real life and worked with on political issues for years, who quite simply will defend *anything* the man does. And I mean anything. And they have a rather large fan club.

I'm sure there are a few people who genuinely agree with every single decision Obama has made. However, on DU I see people defending his every position automatically, even if it's a literal turnabout from what he said, and they "supported", only days ago.

It is absurd.

You can, generally, like the guy and know that he will make bad decisions. To me, he already has. I knew that going in, there is NO such thing as a Perfect President but I will bet you dollars to donuts by the end of his first term there will be people here who have "agreed and defended" 100% of his decisions. Which frankly is impossible without being deluded.
