WASHINGTON (AP) - It's a busy Saturday for Barack Obama. First he named a new ambassador to China and then he switched from being president to being a soccer dad. Obama traded a business suit for jeans and a Chicago White Sox jacket before around Washington to see daughters Malia and Sasha play in separate soccer games.

Obama cheered and clapped along the sidelines at 7-year-old Sasha's game with two Chicago friends. At one point, after Sasha's team scored, the president excitedly shouted "go ... go ... go ... goal." Obama then moved on to 10-year-old daughter Malia's soccer match.

He went to soccer games during the campaign also. I read one account that went something like "a lone figure wearing jeans and a Sox hate emerged from behind the fieldhouse and headed over to the sidelines to watch his daughter play soccer."

He sets an example of what a parent is supposed to be -- as busy as he is and with all the weight on his shoulders, he makes time for his family. He talks about this in his speeches on education and related stuff and then he goes and shows people how it's done.

I haven't agreed with everything he's done but he has reclaimed the "family values" argument from the Repugs.

A jacket for huge fan of White Sox

When one has an audience with the vice president of the United States, a baseball jacket isn't the usual attire.

Nevertheless, George Mitrovich plans to tote a Chicago White Sox jacket to tonight's private soirée fundraiser featuring Joe Biden. The City Club of San Diego founder hopes to ask Biden, who has addressed his club over the years, to give the jacket to President Barack Obama.

And why not? “Obama is a huge White Sox fan,” says Mitrovich, “and the jacket just has been hanging in my closet.”

The party, at the Point Loma home of attorney Jeffrey Krinsk and his wife, Marcy, aims to raise funds for the Democratic National Committee's organizing effort. Among others on the VIP guest list is California's Lt. Gov. John Garamendi.

Before the party, Biden is scheduled to meet with military families.
