2. Now look at that list

Harkin from Iowa.

What about the Senators from deeply blue states like NY, CA and so on.

We get more courage from Iowa than the bluest of states.

18. Because a court has already ordered innocent prisoners released
Completely innocent detainees are being held years after their innocence has been proven and a court has ordered their release.

As to those who will be found guilty, they should be incarcerated in federal prisons. To require a report before they are found guilty is absurdity, it is cowardice. Our federal prisons are very equipped to handle people convicted of terrorists.

Congress knows better but they are afraid of the hysteria that results when the word 'terror' is attached.

3. RI has 2 of the very best Senators!!!
The others are great as well, but RI is batting 2 for 2. Plus, they are 2 of the smartest guys in the room. To me, they both have great Presidential potential.

5. Here is an article about the vote:
http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/story?id=7633754&page=1

The U.S. Senate today voted overwhelmingly to block funding to shut down the detainee center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, dealing another blow to one of President Obama's signature national security issues.

In a 90-6 vote, the Senate followed in the footsteps of the House of Representatives and passed an amendment deleting $80 million in funds from a war funding bill earmarked to close the Guantanamo Bay prison.

Republicans have been raising alarm bells for weeks about the prospect of Obama's planned Guantanamo closure.

Where will the detainees go, they've asked over and over. Will they be tried in the United States? And will former detainees, if cleared of the charges against them, be walking the U.S. streets?

Democrats have answered by rejecting Obama's request for money to start the base closure.

100 days and the complacent congress?

I think the OP of that other stupid thread needs to get a grip and pay attention to the fact - a little reality may go along way to help some people realize that governing is not as easy at they think it is.

Nobody had it, and since I found it, I thought people might want to know.

13. I'm sorry I posted so poorly worded a reply.
I apologize if I worded my post so poorly that I gave you the impression I was slamming your OP, please forgive me.

I was referring to the OP of the thread comparing FDR 100 days to Obamas. I'm talking about those that blame Obama for not getting things done yet, the ones that post the 100 day comparison threads or the "well kiss this promise" goodbye threads.

Thank you for posting this thread and forgive me for sloppy posting.

Tear down the prison, and build a place where the people who have been so badly hurt there can heal.

12. Some folks at Gitmo are members of Al Qaeda.
It is unfortunate that the Bush Admin. chose to commit war crimes, but that does not change the fact that some of the people they captured are dangerous terrorists.

17. They are asking for a plan. Feinstein and Innouye made it clear that they wanted to fund this but
Edited on Wed May-20-09 01:41 PM by Mass
wanted a plan. Feinstein has said that American prisons were fine for that. This is a false issue and even Gibbs has admitted that there should have been a plan before asking fro funding in.

Sure the GOP is against it period, but the funding will be voted.

20. Well I hope everyone...
Likes living in broke country because at the rate we are spending money we will be broke very soon. Or worse...

China will own us and that will be the end of the US as we know it.

Who thinks it is past time to put term limits on these idiot public servants/politicians. I think 12 years is all they deserve and 4 of those years would be optional and only allowed if they did a good job after serving 8 years. Enough is enough! Our political system is broken and on life support and if something isn't done soon our system will be history...

Mark my words...

It is time for the people of this nation do whatever it takes to take back our government from these ass kissing, boot licking politicians who are nothing more then slaves to the Special Interest groups. How can Obama get anything done with these useless people around him.
