Just hear Saxby CHambliss on Hardball say that he does not want Gitmo detainess on US Trial at all. Typically NIMBY attitude, but the wrinkle here is interesting.


He aid some hav legitimate Habeas issues and a judge could order their immediate release onto US Soil.


THe argument is ultimatly weak because if relased they could be immediate extradited for being here illegally (estraordinary extradition?). But the counter is that extradition is a kong process and they could be on the street plotting attacks in the meantime. It is a remarkable interesting and I think politically effective argument. Even if Chambliss is a moran.

Whether it be a military jail or a high security federal prison, I have faith is our corrections officers.

This is a red herring argument that Harry Reid fell for. We CAN house what may be considered the worst of the worst, give them a trial and then, if found guilty -- encarcerate them.


Are we all forgetting the Blind Shiek? The UnaBomber? Timothy McVeigh? (McViegh conspirators?) Eric Rudolph? Charles Manson?

I find it really wrong that people do not think our prison System can't handle the worst of the worst. I find it even worse that people are afraid to test our judicial system because they are so afraid that an AMERICAN judicial system can't keep them.

We have created this situation. It seems that the people do NOT want these people on the soil of their states (fear always wins with the populace of course).

If we decide, as a people, that our Constitution does or doesn't rule our nation, then we are deficient in our own governing.

Do we believe in habeas corpus? The statement against restriction to suspension of habeus corpus in our Constitution (except in cases of invasion or rebellion) is in the FIRST article of that document, not even in the ten amendments to it. Is THIS what we want?

We've housed them here in Colorado (at Florence) for some time. Last I checked we haven't turned into an Al Qaeda outpost. Of course, after the last election in November our Republicans might have a slightly different view of that. Anyway, we've done well in dispensing with the creepy-scary types -- most notably Marilyn Musgrave (unrequited goodbyes are just soooo sad!).

I just love how they call them "terrorist" in the Senate and on the news. We have seen no proof they are "terrorist" I would let most of them go where ever they want to go. They desrve a trial like any of us would get. Remember this was Bush who placed them under arrest. Bush lied about everything. So why not lie about the detainees?

The real reason they are warehoused @ Git'mo is because if they were on United States mainland soil, they would be subject to our laws and Constitution, no question . They are splitting hairs by keeping them at Guantánamo because that is one of our military bases and therefor subject to our laws. They are having it both ways there.

21. We are quite talented

at keeping the folks we want in prison. We probably have the best infrastructure and technology for this of any country on the planet. I don't see the problem.
