There is something seriously wrong when those who rape prisoners are not prosecuted

1. Working As Intended

In the United States, the convict and the prisoner are not human. Listen to how they are described. "Monster." "Animal." "Unfit for society." The animal one always gets me - Do you know anyone who would condone the rape and stabbing of a dog? I sure don't. But somehow by committing a crime, a human becomes fair game for every conceivable abuse. even here on progressive DU, we have no shortage of people who wish rape and murder on criminals. People hold so tight to the death penalty, that even the idea of televising the things isn't as far to the fringe as you'd think.

This is how we treat Americans. Our own people. Often our own children.

Now, think about how we might treat someone who isn't "one of us" in a prison. Make that someone a Muslim or Arab, both groups that mainstream people clamor to incarcerate and exterminate.

That's how we roll in America.

perhaps not the rape - but the detaining without an accusation. "Mohammed"?, "Abdul"?, "Hussein"? - must be guilty of something. God-fearing 'muricans would never name our kids with those blatantly-criminal names.

Or are you speaking not of the rapists themselves but of folks like Rumsfeld who laid the groundwork for many of the abuses? As for indefinite detention without criminal charges and a trial, I hope Congress decides to make such detentions illegal. In some circumstances preventive detention is OK, but not if it's indefinite. There has to be determinate limits.
