Dodd's Numbers Up In Latest Quinnipiac Poll, Still Trailing A Possible Republican Opponent
By DANIELA ALTIMARI | The Hartford Courant
May 28, 2009

The New England Regional Chili Cook Off, held earlier this month in Somers, featured jugglers, kettle corn and dozens of tantalizing combinations of meat, beans and spice.

In the midst of it all was U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd, making another stop on his image rehabilitation tour.

On Wednesday, he got the first indication of how his efforts were paying off. Although a new Quinnipiac University survey suggests that he has reversed a steady drop in his poll numbers, it still has him trailing a possible Republican opponent in 2010.

The poll found that 53 percent of state voters disapprove of the job that Dodd is doing, compared with 58 percent in April. His approval rating went up, from 33 percent to 38 percent.

The poll also shows him losing to GOP rival Rob Simmons by 6 percentage points. That might seem extraordinary for a Democrat from a blue state who has served in the Senate for close to 30 years, but it is an improvement over Dodd's showing in the last Quinnipiac poll, when he trailed Simmons by 16 percentage points.
