I've caught large chunks of Ed, Tweety and KO and I am sure Rachel will follow with same theme tonight.
No one seems to get why Rush and other non-elected officials are slapping down the Sotomayor nomination. They keep saying that there is no political upside to the vehemence of the attacks and that it makes no sense. Are you kidding me? "our guys" are smarter than that aren't they?
To their credit, GOP senators are holding fire at least for now. Its those who aspire to higher office and those who make a living talking about politics that are yelling the loudest. for a very simple reason, Its not about politics, it is not even really about Sotomayor. It's about money.
Rush creates controversy to rally his base to listen to his show so that he can get more ad dollars. Same with Glenn Beck
Gingrich and Tancredo are calling her a racist, not because they intensely dislike her, but because it positions them to raise money from the base in 2012
Advocacy groups, trot out there argument and go on Faux News, so that they can raise more money.
Next wave will be emails and letters decrying Obama and scaring people about Sotomayor. You will see it from Dobson and Perkins and Robertson on the fundy side and a whole slew of official sounding groups with word like "legal" and defense in their names on the secular side.
It will strike fear on abortion and gay marriage and appeal for checks of $25, $50 or $100 to help us keep Obama from getting the most liberal judge in the history of the universe on the bench.
it really is that simple....but no one want to talk about it because its a one or two night story, I guess.
But oh wait.... I guess the longer our liberal talking heads talk about the politics of the moment, the more people get worried and the more they will tune in to be alternately incensed or scared shitless.
MSNBC and CNN did this same schtick last year during the primary when HRC had no practical chance of winnng. Egging things on as a titanic struggle when ther was no chance of an alternative conclusion....and talking about the Bradley effect in p;laces like PA, FL and OH lke there was no chance for a black man to overcome those barriers.
