The radio caller said of course Sotomayor will be progressively she's been working her way to the top watching her back and her words, with the latino woman comment taken totally out of context. The caller said the woman was raised in the Bronx of course she'll have a progressive nature from that alone. Now she's arrived at the big time so chances are there is likely less cause for her to be as moderate as she may of been in the past. An awesome choice a strong woman the court is beginning to roll the right way I have no doubt. The beinning of great change.

1. The bigger question is: why do progressives have to "watch their backs"?

There was never any question about the political leanings of Roberts, Alito, Thomas, Scalia, etc. They were all promoted as strong conservatives.

Why the fuck can't we just stand up and celebrate someone who's a "strong" progressive?

And gave them little to work on. In an ideal world where media and big business didn't work against us I'm sure she could of made a less cautious trail through the courts but sadly, ideal ain't where we live.

4. Well Barack as far as making a level playing field for workers is doing great work. The military >

industrial complex is whole different beast to contend with. If the poltical will was there on other issues it seems clear to me the President would of forged that path. So that's where the remainder comes down to activism. His whole campaign indicated he will be confined by establishment for the real light out the darkness the people have to be the ones they've been waiting for. To my mind Sotomayer is a reason to be cheerul although everyone is very welcome to disagree.

5. This no or slight change; Souter is a very progressive and fair-minded justice.

Change will only come when we get rid of Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito. And that is not going to happen anytime soon. It is a much more realistic view that Obama will be replacing Stevens and/or Ginsburg. Thus we at least remain staus quo if Obama does a good job.
