Following my heart not my head
Edited on Fri May-29-09 10:28 PM by AllentownJake
I was driving back from the happy hour after work and I passed the Sestak for Congress office in Media. The lights were on and there was a staffer inside the office. I pulled into an empty bank parking lot and thought about it and realized, never in my life have I ever felt guilt for following my heart and not my head. There are times I've followed my head and I regretted it.

I walked into the office and talked to the staffer and gave him my information. Told him what I did for the Obama campaign and said I'd be more than willing to help Joe up in the Lehigh Valley. They took my info and said we'll be in touch.

My head says he can't win but my heart says 3 months ago, I was salivating at the thought of a democrat replacing Specter. His walk across the aisle doesn't change 30 years of being a Senator.

So I'm a Sestak guy now.

BTW I know I'm going against my President. But my President can kiss my ass when it comes to trying to tell me who the democratic nominee for Senate should be from the great state of PA.

1. Sestak has a great chance
I suspect lots of Democrats will forgive the President his political maneuvering - and walk in that booth and vote for Sestak. This move by Specter was just wormy. You can't blame the Democrats for taking the D, but Specter, blech.

2. Ed Rendell is an asshole
He'll be up to his usual tricks.

8. He was on some program today
I didn't hear everything, but he did say people told him not to run, that he couldn't win. The little bit that I heard sounded like he was kind of neutral, but I hear you about the tricks. Has he got anything left to care about politically?

10. During the Primary
It is rumored that he threatened every democratic elected official that he would cut off funding for key programs to their area if they had the audacity to endorse Obama.

He plays extreme hard ball.

12. How is that different from Blago
That's what I can't figure out. They do this fundraising crap to/for each other all the time, but somehow or other it's "buying" a Senate seat with Blago and "hardball" with everybody else.

But, what does he have to gain doing it now, he's done running for stuff isn't he?

16. Oooh, okay
I didn't know that, that will make a difference and put Rendell right in the middle of it. I'd rather have Sestak than Specter though, so good luck!!

4. In the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about Hope
I'm hopeful, I'm also taking a stand. Ed Rendell, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama don't get to pick my Senator. The people of PA pick our Senator.

6. Your senator is too old. Rendell's a real threat, but youth might help your man.
Hang tough. He's got a decent chance.

10 years in Congress and an Admiral. Plus he's one of the most progressive members of congress.

9. One of the most progressive members of congress?
Are you sure about that? I always thought he was pretty moderate. He'd still be better than Arlen though.

5. A lot of people told me I was nuts for supporting Wellstone in 1990

They kept saying he couldn't win - so follow your heart. Too many people following their heads (which means being expedient) is what got us into the sorry state we're in today.

13. Obama's needs are immediate and votes for climate change and HC. The threat keeps Spector with us.
Edited on Fri May-29-09 10:56 PM by MarjorieG
Maybe this will be good for Joe later, depending on how he handles it, or maybe the win after Spector votes. I like Joe, although he does seem like he's pressing on TV; he needs to look like he thinks he can succeed.

19. I want to vote for a real Democrat, Jake.
Arlen switched sides to save his own political hide. He's no damn Dem regardless of what he calls himself. I'm tired of having the "machine" candidates shoved down my throat. Joe doesn't have the name recognition Specter has and that's what concerns me the most.
