The Official Kucinich ABC News interview thread
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent!

All positive personal stuff, no policy stuff, no vegan, no New Age hippy stuff. I predict a bump in the polls from this interview. How many points?

1. no policy stuff was a dissapointment...but was good!
Would have been nice to throw in UHC and funding for education. Especially after they just did a piece on NCLB.

They actually let him explain a bit about the default and how he did the right thing!

2. It was OK
I just wish they would have asked him some policy questions. In the end it was neither good nor bad.

3. agree. straight bio, didn't make fun of him, didn't flatter him.
I wish they had mentioned that he's for a voter-verifiable paper trail or against the Patriot Act or some other policy position.

5. In that way it was good..
But also letting Joe/Jane 6 pack know about some policies that they would be beneficial to them would have been good also.

12. The Golden Imagery was a payment for the Koppel/ABC reporter affair
Edited on Thu Jan-08-04 08:06 PM by cryofan
The good thing about this interview was that so much of it centered about youthful and dynamic/upbeat video and photos of Dennis, especially from when he was younger, even as a teen and child. The stuff with him as mayor was Golden. You cannot touch that kind of imagery for impact and effectiveness on TV.

I mean, they really laid on the positive imagery with a trowel. That imagery is the best thing for audience impact because often people are not really paying that much attention to what is being said on the news. But they see the images and hear the tone of the voice over and that feeling from the imagery stays with them.

Effectively this interview was an advertisement for DK. And I suspect the reason it was so positive was because of how DK complained when the reporter was dropped from his campaign after he tangled with Koppel during the debate.

13. I'm glad they clearly explained why Muny Light was a big win
A big win both for Dennis in the long run, but also for the people of Cleveland, who were able to expand their municipal electric utility only because they still owned it because of Dennis.

That was made very clear.

I liked that part.

Dennis is a success, and a leader, when it comes to fighting for the regular people.

Good point.

6. I'm a Clark fan, but I very much respect DK.
He has come a long way from very humble beginnings.

I respect all of the candidates. All would be better than Bush.

7. Well it sounds more good than bad.
God willing, anyone who found out how badly they were misled and flat-out lied to about the default will now go check out his website. :D

Thanks for posting this... really wish I could have seen it.

8. it was strictly a warm-n-fuzzy affair
complete with lots of stills and video of DK, ranging from child and youth, to video of him in office in his early days as mayor, with Jennings doing a voice-over.

The historical background & voice-over stuff segued into a living room set piece with the camera on him, with him talking to an interviewer about his background and motivations.

He came off with lots of gravitas, humility, etc.

9. Human Interest, nice pictures of DK as a young politician
No policy questions, but maybe they didn't want to give him too much of a platform on TV.

Does anyone know if the other candidates in their series were kept from espousing their positions as well?

And tomorrow is Dean. I guess if Dean gets to say, "I was the only one opposed to Iraq from the beginning" then we'll know something's up.

18. Great personal interest
that will resonate with people. Hopefully enough to spend time finding out where he stands on the issues, since that is where he shines. I would have liked a plug for UHC and civil liberties.

20. We've got to get more threads in here, don't you think?
I'm getting tired of all the Chip (Clark) and Dale (Dean) chipmunk will-he won't-he threads.
