Smart, strong American women will turn the tide
Local writer tells how his mother will spend her 79th birthday:

...
Come Sunday, she'll attend Mass at St. Mary of the Angels in Green Bay. She'll be dressed in her finest, including a Kerry/Edwards button that she'll proudly wear up to the altar for Communion.

She couldn't wait to get that button. She knew that church had some people who needed educating, and she, as usual, was up to the job, all five feet and 100 pounds of her.

I have seen that little Roosevelt Democrat quickly bring to silence big-bodied men who made the mistake of crossing her on politics. She comes armed with facts, real-life experiences and a long memory.

If women decide to elect John Kerry, they will succeed, and not necessarily because they have some great love for him, but because they know that the very domestic programs that have leveled the field of opportunity over time are the kinds of programs that Democrats have pushed and Republicans have opposed, time and again. In the face of this undeniable reality, the party now in power flashes the fear card with the boogeyman of terrorism. They know that women want the world to be safe, in many cases not for themselves, but for the children.

1. I have to remember that quote in the story from the state senator!
When a young woman in the crowd said "Kerry is boring" Milwaukee state senator Gwen Moore said she understands the frustrations of young women then says "I tell them don't vote for Kerry, vote for yourself."

Bill Berry's story goes on:

"... It's no wonder that women favor Democrats either. The facts are everywhere: Family leave legislation, passed over Republican objections. Workers' compensation, unemployment compensation, job training for laid-off workers, supplemental health care, even Title IX, again, passed by Democrats and over Republican objections.

Contrast that to the facts of today: health care costs increasing faster than income, jobs moving offshore, record poverty that disproportionately affects female heads of households, and further cuts in domestic programs - a sure bet under a bankrupt style of governing. ..."

Thanks for the excellent link!

3. How do we tap into the very large female voting block?
I agree: If we can mobilize enough women, we can win this election.

America Coming Together (ACT) is promoting their program to get more women to register and vote. According to their website (http://actforvictory.org/act.php/home/features/september_18_50_million_women_count/) in 2000, over fifty million eligible women did not vote.

To honor this effort I designed a series of ads. I think they're headed in the right direction but I don't feel like I "hit" the message right. Any and all advice is welcomed.

If you're interested, and have the time, I'm posting 2 samples below. See note under ads about downloading full-size versions.

The ads above, as well as others, are available as free, full-size, high-resolution JPEG or PDF downloads at http://www.bigpath.net. Please forward, print, post, handout or carrier-pigeon them to as many people as you can. If you'd like to be on my email list (alerts when there's new content or changes to the site): email to signup@bigpath.net.
