Cheney cancels Michigan event
Just reported on local TV in Detroit that Cheney has cancelled his scheduled appearance at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Warren tomorrow, because of a "scheduling conflict."

Sounds like BS to me. All of a sudden the Bush gang is canceling out of a lot of things. Any ideas what's going on?

Is the shit about to hit the fan about the forged memos coming back to bite them?

Or perhaps, the people of Iran ought to be getting deep under cover?

10. Pulling out is one thing
(And the Free Press reported a few weeks ago that Bush was cutting back his effort here)

But canceling an event less than 24 hours in advance is something else.

57. We have been rolling up our sleeves.
Now there are 10 canvassing volunteers in my precinct alone. I think that K and I were the only ones before Saturday.

I took a 75 mile road trip to neighboring communities to the north and west, and I was seeing about 10 to 15 Kerry signs to every Bush sign. On one short street I canvassed, I planted two Kerry signs to make 8 compared to 1 for Satan.

On the next street over, I got chased out of the yard by a real asshole of a wimp for bush.

I realize that this does not prove much, other than maybe the Dems have access to more signs, or that we are more passionate. It is nice to see it though.

I feel confident that we will kick bush out of our little city, even though he stopped by here to make a speech and to let me protest his dumb ass.

8. Maybe the Ukranians are upset with Team Bush for failing to act
against TRUE terrorists, i.e. the Chechnyan rebels? Maybe they're upset because Bush said previously that the Russians should try to negotiate peace with the rebels? If I was a member of Team Bush, I wouldn't go near any Russian ethnics these days either.

Edited on Tue Sep-21-04 05:40 PM by NWHarkness
So I doubt that is the reason.

Besides, The Ukrainian Center is one of those stops that every campaign makes. Pulling out would seem to be a pretty major thing.

53. There is another military offensive
being planned in Nov-Dec to retake Fallujah and maybe other cities. It will be done with forces currently in country for the most part. The only reason it hasn't happened is for political considerations in Iraq and here. If holding off isn't going to help Bush he might move it up.

people living there. A lot of hard workers. A lot of people without medical care. A lot of money troubles in the schools. A lot of people angry at Bush. This was my guess when I read it in the AM paper. Cheney Chickened out. Shock of all shocks! :hi:

51. I live in Warren-it's a mix of repubs and dems
The Mayor is a very corrupt, racist republican, the city council is a mix of corrupt republicans and democrats. Our congressman is Sander Levin (D-one of the best), our Michigan House rep is Lisa Wojno (D). When I first moved to Warren, my congressman was Bonior, but he was redistricted out of office and my part of Macomb county was added to Levin's district, so Candice Miller could run for congress from the northern, repub part of Macomb. The politicians are mostly of polish descent and many of them moved to Warren a generation ago from Hammtramck and the east side of Detroit.
The north part of the city is more republican, and pretty much all white. I live just over 8 Mile from Detroit, and my neighborhood is pretty mixed and few people have yard signs up. I'm pretty sure the WWII vet across the street is voting for Bush, but he's a good neighbor, so I won't hold it against him. The tattooed guy next door who beats his wife is probably not eligible to vote (I'm reasonably sure he's a convicted felon, because his son told me he'd been in prison), but would likely vote for Bush. His wife will vote for Kerry, as will his draft eligible 19 year old son.

I was shocked to hear the place and date announced on the radio two days in advance. Over the summer he sneaked in and out of Ann Arbor with no notice at all - Maybe it was a slip up on the campaigns part or a leak?

Vice President Dick Cheney will not appear in metro Detroit Wednesday as scheduled.

Cheney was expected to visit a community forum at the Ukrainian Cultural Center in Warren. He said he cannot attend the event due to a scheduling conflict, Local 4 reported.

Cheney and his wife, Lynn, were in Lansing Tuesday for a campaign stop at Finley's Restaurant. He met with community members for a Bush-Cheney '04 Roundtable Discussion.
