Are Democrats, Even Bluedogs, Seriously Giving Republicans A Veto Over Healthcare?
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 10:21 AM by TomCADem
I would like the press to ask this question to the so-called blue dogs point blank. Are they seriously saying that we need the Jim Demint's of the world to suddenly grow up, and cooperate on healthcare? Is this just a passive, aggressive way for Democrats on the health industry's payroll to kill any reform? In other words, are they going to blame their opposition on GOP opposition?

Am I missing something? How does any healthcare reform pass, since Democrats have now given Republicans a no-strings attached right to veto healthcare reform?

###

– President Barack Obama's push to overhaul health care needs Republican votes, lawmakers from both parties say.

Democratic and GOP officials acknowledged Sunday that Obama's ambitious plan would not pass without the aid of a doubtful GOP, whose members are almost united against the White House effort.

1. they sure seem to be
And worse, they are giving some rightwingers I know an excuse to blame this on the Democrats, despite the fact that the Democrats stalling and possibly killing reform are voting along with the Republicans.

2. yes
After all that time and money spent in 2008 to get a Democratic President and expand the majority, everybody now seems eager to flush our progress down the toilet. All because the Republicans are playing the fear game again and again.

3. Republicans + Blue Dogs/DLC are the real supermajority in Congress.

The fight is not between Republicans and Democrats. It is between Corporatists and Progressives and the Corporatists outnumber Progressives 2 to 1 in Congress.

5. Is Mike Ross Naive or Dishonest? Someone please ask him!
Does Mike Ross seriously believe that Jim Demint will agree to any meaningful reform? Or, is Mike Ross being dishonest, and using "bipartisanship" to hide his own efforts to kill reform? In other words, Mike Ross will say that he is for healthcare reform, but he could not reach an agreement with the Republicans, so it is there fault.

6. Exactly
It's not even like DeMint has been shy about telegraphing what he, Inhofe, and others are doing, which is to bloody, "break", and defeat President Obama politically instead of trying to, you know, do something help people. While I'm willing to believe that there are a handful of Repubs whom are working with the Dems (maybe not towards the same exact things but are at least negotiating in "good faith"), there are clearly a lot of them whose only interest is killing health insurance reform and/or damaging President Obama politically in time for next year's midterm elections. :puke:
