The Hill: Hoyer Dispute Claims on Adjournment, Healthcare Vote

Hoyer disputes GOP claims on adjournment, healthcare vote

@ 7:24 pm by Hill Staff

House Democratic leaders on Tuesday shot down GOP claims that they have decided to break for recess on Friday without voting on healthcare reform.

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) told reporters that the leadership has not made a decision as to when a vote would occur, leaving open the possibility of a vote next week.

"By Thursday we'll certainly have a pretty good idea We're trying to not foreclose options," Hoyer said, noting that he had not talked with House GOP leadership on Tuesday about the timing of a vote.

A Democratic aide called the memo sent out by a Republican Energy and Commerce staffer, which was reported on by Politico, as "absolutely not true." Other leadership staffers echoed those sentiments.

It remains uncertain if and when a vote will occur in the House before the August recess.
