Arlen Specter has conducted himself pretty well since switching parties IMO...
I was impressed with his defense of Sotomayor and I think he has shown some stones in this health care debate...

As of now I plan on supporting him in his reelection bid...

A minority opinion around here I know!

1. Just remember they do anything to be re-elected
look to see him change back to his old ways if he wins...

7. I agree with you. I watched his Town Hall yesterday and he handled himself well anong the
RW nuts and sadly misinformed and mislead people who attended.

8.  I agree.
I didn't like him when he was a "moderate" Republican and I was prepared to contribute to whoever ran against him in the Primary. I will probably give money to Sestak but I have been impressed with Arlen, he's one tough old bird. Maybe the party switch has unleashed his inner Democrat.

9. Aside from that first week where he seemed disoriented
he's done pretty well. I thought he could've done a better job of explaining at those town halls, but then again, nothing would get through to those RW kooks.

10. Maybe, But Sestak Gets My Support,
even though I live in Wisconsin. Specter should have switched when * was squatting in the WH. THAT would have shown some guts!

11. I have always liked Arlen Specter, I think he votes
for what he thinks is best for his constituents rather than the straight party line..

12. Oh shit, please stop giving Specter a free pass
I don't trust that man as far as he can be thrown. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

15. I don't think it's useful to encourage some Republicans to switch parties...
And then bash them for what they did as Republicans before the switch...

Jim Webb was a Reagan appointee and voted for George Allen in 2000...and he went out of his way not to criticize the swift boaters when they were attacking Kerry...

Yet I think no one would argue having him in the Senate has been bad for Democrats!!!

18. Great point! If we are going to bash party switchers then we should distribute the vitrol fairly.
Not pick and chose who receives the hate. Excellent comments. Web went out of his way to denounce Sen. Kerry and promote a RW military agenda, yet around here he is thought of in a very positive way- no one brings up his past opinions.

17. Trust? He has been my senator for years now and I have had differences with him, but I always
trusted him. What examples can you point to to back up your claim?

Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 12:24 PM by AlinPA
right back to his republican party? Even if they are not happy with his switching, the republicans need his vote for filibusters. I think about this:
