Cheney indicates he is about to go to war on GW Bush -
Cheney has signed a major book deal and intends to set the record straight on all of the things that Bush apparently got wrong by not following the Vice President.

Ominously the self appointed, self indulgent, narcissistic, pretender is about to reveal to all of his Republican friends what we have known all along, Dick Cheney has a reached an unparalleled point of arrogance stating simply, "the statute of limitations has expired" on many of his secrets".

Dick Cheney is a weasel of the first order.

The great irony in all of this is that Republicans don't handle transitions well, never had. They want their next leader picked out and put on a pedestal so that they can all fall in line.

Bush's appointment of Cheney eliminated that orderly transition, and by not replacing him in 2004 virtually secured a Democratic electoral win in 2008. (Irony is added when McCain's appointment of Palin makes the same mistake insuring that the Republicans will have at least 4 more years of no heir apparent).

Cheney's self gratifying chest thumping rationalization of every issue that he discussed with the President is so mind blowing-ly rude that it boggles the imagination.

It ensures that the Republican Civil War will continue and that the neo-cons will have a permanent rallying point to continue to destroy the Republican Party from within.

http://www.rr.com/news/politics/article/rr/9009/8621901/Report_Cheney_felt_Bush_stopped_taking_his_advice/full/

WASHINGTON

Cheney, often described as the most influential vice president in U.S. history, has been discussing his years in office in informal talks with authors, diplomats, policy experts and past colleagues, the Post said, as he works on a memoir due out in 2011 from Simon & Schuster's Threshold Editions.

Robert Barnett, who negotiated Cheney's book contract, passed word to potential publishers that the memoir would be packed with news, said the article published on the Post Web site, and Cheney himself has said, without explanation, that "the statute of limitations has expired" on many of his secrets.

. . .

"When the president made decisions that I didn't agree with, I still supported him and didn't go out and undercut him," Cheney said, according to Stephen Hayes, his authorized biographer. "Now we're talking about after we've left office. I have strong feelings about what happened. ... And I don't have any reason not to forthrightly express those views."

According to the author of the Post piece, Barton Gellman, who earlier wrote a book on Cheney called "Angler," the former vice president believes Bush made concessions to public sentiment, something Cheney views as moral weakness. After years of praising Bush as a man of resolve, Cheney now intimates that the former president turned out to be more like an ordinary politician in the end, Gellman says.

Now don't hold back Dick the future of the Republic is at stake.

(BTW you will get credit for the damage to the Republican Party you so effectively discharge.)

7. He is saying, and you really have to think about this for a while to get the true

nastiness of it, that his "loyalty" had a statue of limitations.

Had Bush not selected him to come back he would have just been another stuffy old ex cabinet member without any real power.

This is how he pays Bush back.

4. The dick is full of shit - he knew all along what a spineless weakling bush was
That's why he chose himself to be VP in the first place- he knew the childish gullible bush would go along with whatever cheney told him to do, particularly after the dick blew smoke of his ass and told him what a great president he would be if he bombed every country in the middle east. By appealing to bush's fragile masculinity, he was able to manipulate the moron into adopting every cheney plan as national policy.

Apparently bush got cold feet after being questioned in the Valerie Plame case and started to distance himself from the dick. He still lacked the cojones to stand up to him, but he could avoid or ignore him simply by isolating himself. The final straw was the boy king's refusal to pardon Scooter Libby upon leaving office.

Now it suits cheney's purpose to act all surprised that bush turned out to be the malleable fool he actually knew he was all along. Still it could be a funny book if it won't so scary.

23. Nah....they are experts at dog and pony shows.
They play this game during elections, too. Remember back in 2004? There would be a flurry of tips about a top Bush loyalist endorsing Kerry and every camera would be trained on the guy for a few days and then he'd be seen endorsing Bush with every news channel camera hanging on his every word.

Sorry, but, longtime Bush watchers have seen this scenario play out for a few decades now.

46. Cheney is primarily a narccisstic personality and he is now going to
stake his place out in history. He couldn't give a shit about the Bushes who he never had much respect for.

Longtime Bush watchers know that GWB fell into Cheney's trap by hiring Rumsfield, who is the one man Bush Sr absolutely despised. (It was GWB's choosing of Rumsfield that has given such credibility to the question whether GWB had some deeply troubling psychological problem in competing with his father.)

In the second term GWB fired Rusmfield and started distancing himself from the Cheney cabal and listening more to people from his father's legacy.

Cheney's anger about Libby's treatment is not a dog and pony show.

49. It most certainly is a dog and pony show - Bush and Cheney both knew well if Libby was pardoned it
would lead to hearings ala Marc Rich pardon, and with no real control of congress anymore and not certain of an Obama WH covering for them, they are left to their tried and true dog and pony show that will help bring sympathy for Bush while Cheney falls on the grenade.

The Bushboy has NEVER been an innocent bystander in the crimes of office from his administration or his father's.

25.  Cheney sensed W's growing "independence" from him.
That to me is the most telling part of the story. During his exhaustive search for a suitable VP, Cheney came to the conclusion that was W completely unsuited for the intellectual rigors of the job. Rather than scuttling the effort to foist this callow adult on the populace, he saw his only chance to be president, if not in name at least in reality.
The Supreme Court foisted upon the country the first regency in American history. The boy president could ride his bike, cut his brush and mangle the English language. The regent would wield all the real clout and reshape the US into his paranoid fantasy of a unified and all powerful executive ruling a newly martially invigorated imperial nation.
The failure of Dick's policies and the intervention of Poppy's friends ruined the VP's vision. The fall out from the brewing Bush Family/Cheney family feud is going to be very interesting.

Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Rice (promising up and comer Jr partner) were the puppeteer crew.

63. see 62 above

You'd think that some DUers would have given up on the "All of the Bushes are united" meme and understood the deeper conflict from the 4 decade rivalry between Rumsfield and Bush Sr, and how there was constant friction between those with alligance to the father and those neo cons who had a seperate cabal under Cheney.

It is obvious that Cheney's power elipsed after the reelection and that he was fighting an increasingly losing battle after Rumsfield was fired.

Cheney has demonstrated that he feels that he is entitled and his anger over the treatment over Libby which is very well documented shows that he doesn't think that anyone from his camp should be falling on any swords.

You completely misread the dynamics of the relationship and still maintain a remarkable condescending attitude.

Read ANY objective book on the Bushes and you will note that the only dynamic REQUIRED for a close working relationship with them is for the OTHER person to take the heat and fall on the grenade to protect the Bush.

Libby situation is more dog and pony and I've said so since the beginning. Cheney knows full well that if Libby HAD been pardoned it would prompt hearings in a congress they no longer controlled (a;a Marc Rich). Neither Bush or Cheney would want that. This 'split' with Bush over Libby certainly got alot of media attention. If there really HAD been a split it would have been downplayed immediately by BushInc.

53. And to think Cheney was chosen for his loyalty...
I'm surprised he would cross the Bush family now.

55. Excellent
Maybe this will get him off his "torture tangent" and off of Obama's case for awhile.

This should definitely be good to watch!

Butter and salt, anybody?

61. RELAX people - he's selling a book!
This is all about generating demand for his book release party. It reminds me of an old George Carlin line... "When some product says "chicken flavored" you can be sure of one thing... There's no fucking chicken in it!

74. Beauty of a description "Ominously the self appointed, self indulgent, narcissistic, pretender"
Edited on Sat Aug-15-09 05:14 AM by 1776Forever
Self appointed - he did appoint himself the VP after all!

...........

Self indulgent - Oh never knew anyone that loved himself over country more then this guy - a true "legend in his own mind"!

..............

Narcissistic - The ultimate!

http://www.mentalhealth.com/dis/p20-pe07.html

"Narcissistic personality disorder is a condition characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, need for admiration, extreme self-involvement, and lack of empathy for others. Individuals with this disorder are usually arrogantly self-assured and confident. They expect to be noticed as superior."

...........

And finally the "pretender":

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/pretender

pre·tend·er (pr-tndr)
n.
1. One who simulates, pretends, or alleges falsely; a hypocrite or dissembler.
2. One who sets forth a claim, especially a claimant to a throne.

............

Ah yes - Cheney has them all in bushel baskets!:freak:

75. Doesn't his prescription say don't speak under the influence?
Something about Limbaugh, Glenn Beck and now Cheney that they don't seem to think people care what they say whether they don't care or not what they say. I don't know if working under the influence of narcotics is such a good idea for some but it seems to fall in line with the no brain no pain behavior.
