I went to my Congressman's Office today
I wanted to let him know that I supported healthcare reform with a strong public option. I spoke with an aide and unfortunately most people that have been coming in are against any changes to the current system. Most of their objections are based on misinformation being put out by the GOP.

It is very important that everyone contact their member of Congress and Senators to let them know you support Healthcare reform. If you can visit their office instead of calling or emailing; please do so. Also, try to correct any misinformation that is out there with your friends and family. A great place to find refutation for these lies is Politifact.com: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/subjects/health/

Good luck everyone and get out there to fight for reform.

10. You're welcome.
But I didn't post this for the graditude. I posted hoping that people would take similar action. Unfortunately the relative disinterest that has been shown makes me suspect that many here are not interested in taking positive action but would rather just bloviate and complain that the Dems are spineless.

2. Unfortunately a waste of time if you live in Oklahoma
I'd like to have serious conversations with my Senators (Inhoffe and Coburn) and Representative (Mary Fallin) but I know that it would be a complete waste of my time. Inhoffe's and Coburn's reputations are well known. Mary Fallin would be more interested in getting elected Governor. This state is so red it isn't funny. Oklahoma perpetually lives 40-50 years behind the rest of the country and they are not ready to live in 21st century.

5. I live in New York
In a district with that elected it's first Democratic Congressman in 40 years and one of the few that voted for McCain over Obama.

11. I'm in Bay Ridge.
You should still visit Rangel's office and let you know that you support reform. Remember they keep logs of all visitors and it might help Rangel if he can show another member who might be on the fence how many people came to his office to support reform.

4. Bravo. Either we fight our politcal wars between elections
or else we might as well put up the White Flag. Cause political battles are fought 364 days a year.

7. I got an e-mail about personally visiting my Senator's office. I thought it was a silly idea.
Edited on Thu Aug-13-09 07:22 PM by Honeycombe8
It was from an Obama team member.

I have a leading Republican as a Senator (John Cornyn - pardon me while I barf :puke: ). Okay, I'm back. I'm feeling much better now. :freak:

To have lefties going to his office just to announce to his staff why s/he is there, and sit for awhile, waiting for a replacement to come? Sounds silly to me. Waste of time. Cornyn will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER sign any health care bill put forth by the Dems (or probably any other bill spearheaded by the Dems). NEVER. NEVER. NEVER.

That shows that that was an e-mail not geared toward the specifics of my state, but was a national e-mail sent to various states.

12. How cynical of you.
While you might not change Cornyn's vote, he may think twice about spreading misinformation or obstuctionism if enough people come to his office to voice support for reform.

8. I called my Rep. (David Wu, D-Ore) and said the same thing
The staffer said she was glad to hear from me, because most of the people contacting them have been these fringe nutcase Fox News lunatics (my characterization, not hers).

9. Exactly.
Too many around here like to blame the Dems for not having backbone but what should they do if all they hear from is the other side. We have to take action to let our Democratic Representatives that we support reform and will support them if they vote for reform.

13. Rep. Thaddeus McCotter for me here in Michigan.
What a total loser. I did email his office, but I am sure it went into his email trash as soon as they saw it. LOL!!
