Hundreds Come Out To Rally In Jackson, Michigan Over Health-care Reform
by Chris Gautz & Heidi Fenton | Jackson Citizen Patriot

Thursday August 13, 2009, 4:22 PM

The debate over health care reform has drawn hundreds of people to a rally in front of U.S. Congressman Mark Schauer's office this afternoon.

Positioned on all four corners of the N. West Avenue and Ganson Street intersection, people marched up and down the streets, chanting and carrying signs.

Both opponents and proponents of President Barack Obama's health care reform proposal had planned to rally at the location, with supporters starting at 3:30 p.m. and opponents coming out at 4:30 p.m.

---SNIP
Supporters of health care reform were being lead in chants by a man with a bull horn.

---SNIP
Rally participants carried signs, as well. Some were homemade, while others appeared to have prepared professionally.

---SNIP
County Commissioner Phil Duckham was also there in opposition. He carried a sign with a swastika on it, and compared Obama to Hitler.

"This is how Hitler started out," Duckham said. "First, Obama took over the auto industry, then the banking industry. We don't need him to take over the health care industry."

4. Actually 100's is quite a crowd for this town and it appears a though there was an
overwhelming majority of reform supporters in the crowd.

From the article:

The rally for supporters was organized by Aletheia Henry, state director for Organizing for America, part of the Democratic National Convention.

At the rally, Henry said she was amazed by the turnout.

"I am shocked, I did not expect this many people," Henry said. "We put out the call and the people came."

3. Save the photo of Duckham
Should come in handy if he wants a political future. Extremism doesn't sell well when you're running for office.
