Poll shows Americans reject RW death claim
Majority of Americans Believe Health Care Reform 'Myths'

While the article highlights the percentage of Americans who believe the myths, it doesn't mention the percentage of Americanc who believed the myths before the health care debate heated up. Was it higher or lower? How many of them have changed or will never change their minds (the low number of Democrats is a clue).

The title an the fact that the media leads with the myths people believe is simply a new twist on distorting support for health reform.

Here is the most significant data, related to the primary distortion being pushed by the RW and GOP elected officials:

There were exceptions.

Fewer participants believe "myths" regarding the impact of proposed changes on current health insurance coverage. For instance, less than 30 percent think private insurance coverage will be eliminated. And just 36 percent think a public insurance option will put private insurance companies out of business.

In addition, only three out of 10 respondents believe the government will require the elderly to make decisions about how and when they will die.

That's a huge clue that the RW distortions have been rejected by Americans.

1. Someone should tell the President and the rest of the Dems that.
I heard they dropped it from the bill. Spineless.

Actually, this makes me feel a little better. Perhaps the GOP over-reached on this one?

6. I hope insurance companies won't be able to sell primary health insurance.
Let them sell secondary health insurance.

As for senior citizens. They should be required to have medical directives. Of course it shouldn't be limited to just senior citizens.

Of course, there should be exceptions. Like the Bush and Cheney family. Their medical directives should be left up to physicians that hate them.

We can at least dream.

9. "ONLY 3 out of 10..." "JUST 36 percent..." This is acceptable??
These are flat-out lies we're talking about, not just opinions. This is not happy news.

our side despite the facts.

11. I seriously, don't know why that's so hard to understand
unless you want to believe the RW is winning when 70% rejects a claim they spent millions to push.

14. Please don't assign ulterior motives to people who disagree with you.
I am not trying to "find" things to complain about -- I honestly think these numbers are astonishing (and the rest of the poll far worse).

16. How else can I read it? It's a FACT that 35% or so of Americans are aligned with Sarah Palin
and her ilk. If you think THEY are going to EVER believe Obama/the Dems. over Palin/the RWers, you're sadly mistaken.

18. I'm reading it logically. If you REALLY believe that Palin followers can be converted, that's
just extreme naivete if nothing else.

If these numbers, as the positive "exceptions" to the rest of the poll, make you happy, fine.

15. Most Americans and ALL republicans don't even know it was a REPUBLICAN
senator who wrote the ammendment to have insurance cover the costs of end-of-life counselling that We The People currently have to pay out of our own pockets.

The MEDIA KNOWS THE FACTS.

The MEDIA is part of the problem.

a link to the actual poll? The Yahoo article doesn't link to it, they don't even say who conducted the poll, yet the freaking thing is all over the internet.

20. It doesn't even say. The link goes to a site where this info is provided
The national survey, conducted from Aug. 14 – 18, involved a random sample of 600 Americans aged 18 and older living in the 48 contiguous states and Washington, D.C. Respondents indicated whether or not they believed 19 claims about health care reform, each of which is considered a myth by the White House.

23. You're saying
LiveScience.com conducted the survey, but the article doesn't really state that, and I was interested in a little more background about the survey. Margin of error, stuff like that...

LiveScience isn't a pollster, it's a syndicated news outlet run by Imaginova. Imaginova was Space.com before a name change. Space.com was founded by Lou Dobbs in 1999, he was the CEO until 2001, he still serves on their Board of Directors and holds a share in the company.

26. I misunderstood
you then.

I'm suspicious of things that don't clearly cite their sources. For all we know, they may have pulled these poll results out of Lou Dobbs' ass.

Maybe that will make Sparkly feel better about Obama's "failure" to clear up rightwing lies. ;)

24. Indoctrinated
Listen, there was a guy on the Schnitt show today who was going on about how this is all about the libruls trying to control everything through the gubmint. It's all about trying to control every facet of life. That's all it's about. We libruls just want to CONTROL their lives.

Dang, how did they figure it out. If that's the attitude of that entrenched 30%, how do you argue with that?

Say, hey, listen, mister, you've got it wrong. It's not control for the sake of control per se that I advocate health care reform, but you see I want universal coverage. I don't want people to die or suffer. I want us to have MORE freedom from fear and insecurity.

They have their little world view and there's nothing we can do or say to breach the gap. They will grasp whatever information or message that supports it.
