Medicare For All-(single payer)--list of upcoming sit-in rallies.& Weiner Amendment......
Edited on Wed Oct-28-09 10:36 AM by joeycola
I sure hope they have big crowds and that media covers them. The WH and many in congress kicked us under the table but we are NOT going away.

Dear xxxx,

Last month, over 100 people risked arrest all over the country. Just as stories of insurance cruelty and denial of care are finally being exposed more often in the media, the insurance companies have begun openly attacking reform even more boldly. It is becoming obvious to more and more citizens that until we take on the insurance companies that are not just killing us but killing our democracy, we will never win real reform - Medicare for All.

Stand up for real reform and democracy, join a sit-in if you can. If you cannot afford to go to jail, those who are willing to be arrested need your support, so join in the protesting outside. We need to show up in numbers, the more of us the better. We want to show them that the support for Medicare For All is growing, and will only get larger until we cut loose from the insurance companies.

Subject:

Dear Representative, I write to urge your support for the Weiner Single-Payer Amendment to HR 3200, which will receive a floor vote in October. The Weiner amendment would replace Division A of HR 3200 with the text of HR 676, the “U.S. National Health Care Act,” sponsored by Rep. John Conyers. This would effectively transform HR 3200 into single-payer legislation. Single-payer is a superior reform to HR 3200 in many ways: * Single payer would provide universal and comprehensive coverage for all medically necessary services. Unamended, HR 3200 would leave millions uninsured or with skimpy coverage. * Single payer allows patients free choice of doctor and hospital. Under HR 3200, insurance companies would continue to deny care and restrict access to services. * Single payer pays for itself by eliminating $400 billion in insurance company administrative waste and redirecting it to care. HR 3200 requires $1 trillion in new revenue in the next decade. * Single payer establishes proven and effective cost-containing mechanisms to ensure that benefits are sustainable over the long run. HR 3200 lacks effective cost controls. The Weiner amendment presents an historic opportunity for Members to register their support for single-payer national health insurance as the best way to solve the U.S. healthcare crisis. It additionally will provide a vote that Members can stand by when approached by constituents. While we recognize the political imperative to pass healthcare reform, it is important to remember that the purpose of reform is to ease the burden for all Americans. Only single-payer healthcare meets that goal—both medically and economically. The Weiner Amendment deserves your vote.
We will add your signature from the information you provide.

Do it. Thanks.

Dear xxxxx

Congressman Wiener needs your help on his single payer Medicare For All amendment. I just got back from a conference in Boston where Rep. Wiener asked for help on two things:

First, and urgently, he wants people to contact Speaker Pelosi and ask her to keep her promise to allow a floor amendment and floor debate on a single payer amendment to the House bill. Although the Speaker promised such a floor amendment in July , there is a strong likelihood that she will back down on that promise in the very near future unless she gets a flood of emails, faxes or calls. So let's flood Nancy Pelosi's office with faxes like we did once before.

http://www.1payer.net/faxapp/senders/add/cid:40

Remarkably, Speaker Pelosi said in Democratic Caucus "If it were up to me, we would have single payer." Let's remind Nancy Pelosi with a flood of faxes: it IS up to her because she is the Speaker.

Second, Rep. Wiener asked that we flood our Congresspersons with calls and push them to support the single payer Medicare For All amendment. About 100 other Congressmen are solidly behind it now and even blue dogs are wavering, so Wiener thinks a push on Congress will help a great deal. You can send a fax supporting the Wiener single payer Medicare For All amendment right now. Just click here.

You can send a FREE fax to Pelosi very simply and easily.

Here is the link to the fax.

It simply asks Pelosi to keep her promise for a floor debate in the House. The Pelosi fax linked above is very important. You can also call her office at

202-225-4965.

Don't let her back down on her promise of a single payer floor debate in the House.

Urge your rep to vote 'Yes' for single payer!

This fall presents a historic opportunity for members of Congress to go on the record in support of single-payer legislation.

Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) is introducing a substitute amendment to the House leadership’s bill, H.R. 3200, that would delete the language of that bill and substitute the provisions of H.R. 676, the single-payer, Medicare-for-All bill sponsored by Rep. John Conyers (D-Mich.). House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has promised a full floor vote on Weiner’s amendment in the weeks or months ahead.

The Weiner amendment, unlike the House leadership’s bill, assures universal, comprehensive, and high-quality coverage, free choice of doctor and hospital, and no co-pays or deductibles through a publicly financed system similar to Medicare. Because of the massive savings on private insurance overhead and paperwork, the Weiner amendment would entail no increase in U.S. health spending, in contrast to the House bill’s $1 trillion price tag over 10 years.

Write your representative today in support of the Weiner amendment. If you can, arrange a meeting with your congressperson; you can find tips on how to do so here and talking points here. Finally, please write to Rep. Weiner so he knows that he has our support in his fight for real health reform.

Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) successfully offered an amendment to the House leadership’s bill that, if incorporated into final legislation passed by the Congress and signed by the president, would allow states to adopt their own single-payer system if they chose to do so. Specifically, Kucinich’s amendment would waive certain ERISA provisions that could be used to obstruct such a move.

While PNHP works for a national single-payer program, and while we more specifically supports the passage of H.R. 676, we welcome any efforts to move toward single payer. We therefore encourage you to write your representative today in support of the Kucinich amendment.

15. Have you tried to call, someone has to push for the estimate ...
just sending it to CBO will not get it done.

It would help if his amendment were out there and we could read it beforehand, per his office he has changed HR 676. How is the question.

We do need an estimate and a glimpse of the amendment a few days before the vote.

IMO he should post the amendment on one of his websites and ask people to contact the leadership, he had a website for the PO, why not for SP?

"Healthcare Hoax from Hell

Lies, damn lies, and promises from Democrats. An amendment allowing states to create state-level single-payer healthcare has been stripped out of the House healthcare bill, after having passed in committee back in July by a vote of 27 to 19. And rumor has it that a vote on national single-payer that was promised in July in exchange for skipping a committee vote on it will now be denied..."

But we have individual mandates, no negotiation on drugs for Medicare, the data exclusivity provision that Bio wanted, rates negotiated separately for providers by regions and an option that will not available to everyone.

“I've met with my senators and congressman and nothing works,” says Weinberg. “I think what really pushed me over was the new study that came out from Harvard that showed that 45,000 people die each year because they don't have health insurance and that to me is criminal.”

Weinberg adds, “Our elected representatives are so in the pockets of the insurance companies that they're not doing anything. They're not responsive to the American people. So, this is a wake up call to them as well. “
