George Miller sold out Dennis Kucinich?
President Obama told the committee chairman, George Miller, to oppose Kucinich's amendment, and he did so, leading off the voting with a resounding "No."

Why, you seemed downright upset.

18. David is a DUer. Why don't you IM him? If you are interested in the committe vote from last july, I
mean.

He quoted Miller as saying "No" in the committee vote back in July.

or do you suspect that Pelosi actually didn't strip the Kucinich amendment out of the bill?

Or what exactly are suspicious of?

Anyway, here is his DU page with his e-mail, his picture, his website, his contact info.
http://journals.democraticunderground.com/davidswanson

That's part of why I believe him. I mean I don't have my email or my picture up, you don't have yours up, the OP doesn't have theirs up. we all could be anybody or nobody. Seriously. I could be in Nova Scotia. You could be a Iranian national. The OP could be an insurance executive, and how wopuld we know? But we all know who David is.

We all know who David is, what his background is, and we can read a large body of his writing.

That's why I believe him. I figure he's far more believable than an anonymous person like me, or yourself.

13. Where do you get the idea Miller "sold out" Kucinich? Or is that your fantasy?
And you are rotfl over a committee vote that the good guys won back in July?

I don't get it.

Back in July, the House Committee on Education and Labor did something right, something that could have made all the difference in the world to millions of Americans. Congressman Dennis Kucinich introduced in the committee an amendment that would have effectively allowed states to improve on our healthcare system if they chose to, allowed them to create state-level single-payer healthcare. There are bills to do this in several state legislatures already. Such a bill has passed and been vetoed in California twice, where a change in governor is imminent.

President Obama told the committee chairman, George Miller, to oppose Kucinich's amendment, and he did so, leading off the voting with a resounding "No." But the Democrats voted 14 to 14 with one member passing and two failing to vote. And the Republicans voted 13 to 5 with one member failing to vote. That added up to 27 yes votes and 19 no votes. Some Republicans may have voted yes simply because the chairman voted no, but they said they were voting yes for states' rights. And that would be a sensible, decent, and constitutional position. Why shouldn't states be permitted to do better, as well as worse, than Washington, even if the insurance companies bring in less blood money?

Are you losing it, ProSense?

Can't find anything else to mis-characterize?

Or are you referring to the fact that Pelosi (not Miller) stripped the amendment out of the merged bill and thus rendered the merged bill completely regressive with no redeeming qualities that anyone except an insurance agent could love?

14. I think
the point is there is no proof that Obama told George Miller to do anything of the sort.

15. You would have to take that up with DUer David Swanson. He wrote the piece and
I wouldn't be at all surprised if he knows something you don't.

Swanson's a straight shooter. I haven't seen him "loose with the truth" like a few Duers seem to be.

I also didn't see him claim to "have proof." He may have spoken to Miller about it and Miller might have told him the President asked him to vote against it.

I don't know, I just know David's writing and he's always been an honest writer.

Why don't you ask him? You could IM here on DU and find out for yourself if you are interested.

19. The irony in some of the criticism: Obama can't get the blue dogs to support a robust public option
but gets George Miller to vote against a bill that passes anyway? The article also claims that Miller did so with a resounding "no," but then goes on to state that Millers opposition inspired the Repubs to vote yes.

OMG.

20. Well it turns out that no one actually heard Obama or Miller say it.

Apparently the source is Sasha's English teacher who intercepted a note she was sending to a friend that said among other things, "DK is a doo doo head" and assumptions were made.

Fortunately David Katrelli is not aware of the fact that he has offended the President's daughter.

22. You are claiming that Obama can't get the blue dogs to support a robust public option?
Do you have proof that he tried?

Or are you making that up?

I would need proof.

I think it's far more likely that Obama could care less whether the legislation had a weak public option in it or whether it had no public option in it.

That's my personal belief.

Unless you have proof.

24. I watched it and Miller did so with a resounding no, he was also quite...
shocked and almost lost for words when the votes were counted.

But it does not matter, the leadership stripped it from the bill anyway.
